The candidate will: . Take overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the NUS advanced, aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope (TEM) facility and associated facilities, including specimen holders, spe The candidate will: . Take overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the NUS advanced, aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope (TEM) facility and associated facilities, including specimen holders, specimen bakeout facilities, plasma cleaner, in-situ gas environmental holders, heating and cooling holders, computers and software. . Supervise, operate, and maintain several TEM/STEM and FIB instruments, assist with electron microscopy investigations using these instruments, and train users on instrument operation. . Ensure the smooth operation of the TEM equipment and initiate maintenance and repair work, including daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance, liaising with manufacturers over twice-yearly scheduled service, and any other necessary service. . Be responsible for liaison with providers of associated equipment such as in-situ holders, electron energy loss and X-ray spectrometers, specimen preparation and handling equipment. . Advise and support the scientists on technical issues and provide data for occasional external and industrial customers. . Be responsible for the documentation of procedures and measurements as well as the associated administrative tasks such as financial accounts and issuing invoices for the usage of the machines, service invoicing and ordering consumables. . Ensure the safety of the lab and act as a custodian of safety documents. Qualifications . At least a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience is required in materials science, or similar discipline. A PhD or equivalent experience in microscopy will be advantageous. . Must be capable of performing world-class atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy, including multiple imaging and analysis modes, calibration, alignment and state-of-the-art quantification of data. . Must be a skilled operator in advanced aberration-corrected scanning and transmission electron microscopy, including tuning of aberrations, ability to utiize multiple image modes (high and low angle annular dark field, annular bright field), with simultaneous electron energy loss spectroscopy and/or energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. . Ability to quantify such data to achieve meaningful research outcomes. . A team player who also enjoys working on their own initiative. . Good communication and reporting skills and desire to develop professionally.
