With our commitment to increase penetration in an underserved hearing care market, we want to accelerate our business transformation in order to reach more people, more effectively.As a member of the WSA Legal Department, the Lead Counsel Privacy will drive our company privacy topics and maturity across Asia Pacific. He/She will advise our various teams on how to reach their business goals in a manner consistent with WSA\'s privacy standards. The role reports directly to the Head of Global Privacy (in DK) and is based in Singapore where sits a team of 5 legal counsels advising on various legal and compliance topics across Asia Pacific, including the global Chief Legal Officer of the company.What you will do

  • Closely monitor and drive compliance with data privacy legislation in Singapore and in other key markets across APAC, in particular Australia, China, India, Japan and South Korea
  • Assist in the continued development, improvement and implementation of WSA\'s privacy compliance program for APAC region (e.g. incident response, data transfers, processing, policies, procedures, guidance and employee training, etc.)
  • In co-operation with the global privacy team (where relevant), provide advice to business on data privacy laws and regulations in APAC including but not limited to (a) advising marketing teams on legal issues related to marketing, advertising and tracking technologies
  • Work collaboratively to develop strong working relationship with key stakeholders within business and information security functions to promote privacy compliance
  • Support business teams and other legal colleagues with privacy issues in contract drafting and negotiations with customers, business partners and vendors, including software license agreements, data processing agreements and data transfer agreements
  • Assist with data breach notifications, obligations and actions including to lead or assist with data incident management
  • Engage with Regulators/Data Protection Authorities and be appointed as data protection officer in countries where such appointment is required, including responding to regulatory inquiries on privacy compliance
  • Assess and advise on mitigation of personal data risks in new and changing products and services including risks generated by trans-border data flows, any additional requirements under local privacy laws in APAC, through data privacy impact assessments
  • Investigate data privacy related complaints, carry out audits/assessments, carry out data-mapping, monitor and report on risks, in line with established procedures and processes
What you bringExperience
  • Law Degree or equivalent qualifications, and good standing with a bar association
  • At least 6 years experience, preferably with experience in both private practice and in an in-house environment, with at least 3 years relevant experience managing privacy related matters in APAC
  • Internationally recognized data privacy certifications would be advantageous (IAPP CIPP/A, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT)
  • Experience and ideally personal interest in technology and IOT is ideal
  • Team player with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to share knowledge
  • Able to work collaboratively across many functions from Sales, Marketing, R&D, IT, and managing projects across cross border teams
  • Fluency in mandarin is an advantage to support our large China business
