Job Description


The College of Humanities and Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS) welcomes some 2,000 freshly matriculated Arts and Science undergraduates annually who will read a common curriculum comprising courses in Common Core, Integrated Pillars and Interdisciplinary Pillars. The compulsory science course which all students read is HSI1000 \xe2\x80\x9cHow Science Works, Why Science Works\xe2\x80\x9d. The course is helmed by a team of motivated and experienced educators from the Faculty of Science and introduces the process of scientific inquiry - observing, asking questions, and seeking answers via tests and experiments.Responsibilities

  • Work together with and coordinate the existing teaching team of professors and Full-Time Teaching Assistants (TA) in HSI1000.
  • Teach up to 200 contact hours per academic year: conduct sectional teaching (labs and workshops) in this and other courses related to their discipline.
  • Support students via email or meetings during office hours.
  • Prepare educational resources and course materials and evaluate module assessment components.
  • Provide administrative support and assist in the planning and day to day running of the module.
  • Organise training and development of the Full-Time TA team.
Qualifications and ApplicationQualifications
  • A PhD in Physics.
  • Excellent verbal, reading, and written skills, and be able to explain difficult concepts clearly.
  • Work well independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team with diverse interests and opinions; team teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research.
  • Experience teaching in a common curriculum for first-year students preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions for undergraduate students, especially with first-year students of diverse backgrounds, interests and abilities.
  • Teaching experience with good student feedback preferred.
  • Commitment to continual pedagogical improvement and a scholarly approach to education.
