What the role is:Legal Service Officers of the Singapore Legal Service are appointed by the Legal Service Commission. A career with the Singapore Legal Service will enable you to directly participate in the administration of justice and advancing the rule of law in Singapore, and serve and protect the interests of the public and the nation. We offer numerous opportunities and exposure to a broad spectrum of challenging and interesting work. You may serve as: \xe2\x80\xa2 a Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Crime Division of the Attorney-General\'s Chambers (\xe2\x80\x9cthe AGC\xe2\x80\x9d); or \xe2\x80\xa2 a State Counsel in the Advocacy Group, the Civil Division or the International Affairs Division of the AGC, or as a Legislative Draftsman in the Legislation Division of the AGC; or \xe2\x80\xa2 a Legal Counsel in a Ministry HQ or department or statutory board where Legal Service Officers may be deployed.What you will be working on:We seek to recruit candidates for initial deployment at one of the following departments/agencies: (a) AGC: the Crime Division, the Civil Division and the Legislation Division; (b) the Legal Division of the following Ministries/departments: the Ministry of Law, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of National Development, the Ministry of Communications & Information and the Legal Aid Bureau; and (c) the Legal Division of the following Statutory Boards: the Home Team Science and Technology Agency, the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, National Environment Agency and the Singapore Land Authority.What we are looking for:We welcome applications from both fresh graduates and mid-career candidates. Graduate-applicants would require a law degree fro (a) the NUS, the SMU or the SUSS; or (b) a Scheduled University in England, Australia, New Zealand or the USA and have passed the DipSing or the Part A of the Singapore Bar Examinations and be a \xe2\x80\x9cqualified person\xe2\x80\x9d as defined in the Legal Profession Act 1966/the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules. Undergraduates who have completed at least their second year of study for an LLB programme at the NUS, the SMU or the SUSS or an LLB/B.A. Law/B.A. (Hons) Juris programme at a Scheduled University or a JD programme at the NUS, the SMU, the SUSS or a Scheduled University may apply for \xe2\x80\x9cconditional\xe2\x80\x9d appointment to the Singapore Legal Service. Those who are interviewed may be required to undergo an internship at the Attorney-General\'s Chambers or a Legal Service department. If you perform well at both the interview and the internship, you may be offered \xe2\x80\x9cconditional\xe2\x80\x9d appointment to the Legal Service. The confirmation of the \xe2\x80\x9cconditional\xe2\x80\x9d appointment will be reviewed on your successful completion of the LLB/B.A. Law/B.A. (Hons) Juris/JD programme and being awarded the requisite qualification. All applicants are required to include the following in their application for the consideration of the Legal Service Shortlisting Panel (not more than one page each and with your name at the bottom left corner of each document): (a) a Personal Statement; and (b) a write-up on why you are applying to the Legal Service and how/what you can contribute to the Legal Service and the administration of justice.
