Job Description



Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of LNG Trader in Duo Tower, Singapore through 16 June 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (SGT). Overview: Supply and Trading (S&T) is the commercial link to the market for Upstream and Downstream & Chemicals (DS&C). S&T applies its knowledge of commodity markets, the well head-to-customer value chain and transportation logistics in the crude, gas, and refined products markets to maximize the value of enterprise assets and enable the commercial success of Upstream and DS&C. S&T buys, sells, and supplies crude oil, refined products, natural gas, and gas liquids to support Chevron\'s crude and gas production operations and its refining and marketing network. S&T integrates enterprise-wide supply and trading capabilities to capture commercial opportunities across the entire value chain through commercial functional excellence. Gas Supply and Trading (GSAT) is responsible for marketing Upstream\xe2\x80\x99s gas, LNG and LPG production as well as trading 3rd party volumes. With offices in Perth, Singapore, London, Houston and Calgary our global teams procure, transport, and market pipeline and seabourne gas products to maximize the value of Chevron\xe2\x80\x99s Upstream production. We work in close collaboration with Chevron Shipping, Pipeline and Power and third parties to transport gas for internal and external customers around the world. GSAT is tightly integrated with the internal Value Chain Optimization (VCO) organization and Upstream to capture opportunities across the entire well head-to-customer value chain. The team collects and leverages market intelligence to deliver incremental value and enhanced profitability through strategic arbitrage, storage, and third-party trading, balancing the Chevron system and proactively managing changing gas & gas liquids flows to ensure flow assurance. This position of the LNG Trader/ Senior LNG Trader is located in Singapore and is part of a global team that is responsible for trading LNG both from Chevron\xe2\x80\x99s upstream assets as well as third party cargoes. The successful candidate is also responsible for adding value to the LNG business through optimisation of Chevron\xe2\x80\x99s growing global LNG portfolio and third-party volumes. Responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Stay abreast of the global LNG market with focus on the near to mid-term market
  • Contribute to the development of the trading and optimization strategies to meet or exceed Business Plan target.
  • Proactively formulate, advocate and execute trades that are aligned with trading and optimisation strategies, and Chevron system requirements to monetise asset value and capture market upsides.
  • Ensure system flow and maximise Enterprise value by working collaboratively with value chain stakeholders (ADP, Scheduling, VCO, Shipping, Optimisation, Cargo Operations, etc.,)
  • Conduct physical LNG trading for cargoes sourced or delivering in the Pacific basin as well as global optimisation for both equity and third party cargoes.
  • Monitor deal exposure and profitability closely and adhere to all Chevron trading procedures and controls.
  • Partner with the Financial Trading Team to risk manage price exposure relating to the Pacific Basin LNG portfolio and perform asset-backed trading activities leveraging the Chevron\xe2\x80\x99s portfolio.
  • Work closely with the global LNG teams (traders & analysts) to maintain the global LNG team\xe2\x80\x99s fundamental supply and demand viewpoint and contributes to the market Point of View in the Trading time horizon.
  • Actively participate in the development of the regional and global physical trading strategies in line with team\xe2\x80\x99s market Point of View.
  • Work closely with Origination Team to identify, evaluate and negotiate trading opportunities.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for LNG and in particular the region across the wider Chevron enterprise.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external working relationships to expand Chevron\xe2\x80\x99s market presence and enhance profitable trading opportunities.
  • Leverage industry knowledge and relationship to support global LNG long term strategy, origination, and project development.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of LNG trading and/or origination experience including managing position risk and exposure aggregated across the globe.
  • Proficient in physical and paper trading, understands different hedging strategies -cross-regional, cross-commodity, cargo arbitrage etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and develop complex deal structures to generate/capture new business and grow earnings.
  • Demonstrating a growth mind set and the capability of leveraging Chevron portfolio knowledge to capture optimization opportunities and creating third party profitable trading opportunities.
  • Demonstrated exposure and risk management expertise. Ability to articulate market view, outstanding exposure and activities taken to manage risk.
  • Experience negotiating/contracting agreements in LNG.
  • Ability to build industry relationships to facilitate new business.
  • Strong energised team player who will be able to assume considerable responsibilities in a pressurised environment, with a focus on achieving sustainable business results.
  • Ability in applying and leveraging digital tools and technology (Excel/Word /PowerPoint/other systems) for deal evaluation and risk determination to support trading strategies.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree or equivalent from one of the following fields: Accounting, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, Sciences, Finance, Economics, Supply Chain Management or Marketing.
Relocation Options:

Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters.

International Considerations:

Selected candidate will be based in Singapore under the local payroll system and benefits. Chevron participates in E-Verify in certain locations as required by law.
