What the role is
You will manage a lush and vibrant garden to serve the recreational and lifestyle pursuits of our community. You will contribute towards the greening, maintenance, sustainability and conservation of our green landscape through careful and dedicated management of the garden and its facilities. The Gardens is also a sustainability and living lab for innovation and technology in urban greenery as we transform into a City in Nature.
What you will be working on
Specifically, you will be responsible for the horticulture and arboriculture management of Jurong Lake Gardens: • Management/maintenance regimes for trees, shrubs and lawns in the landscape, including tree inspections • Manage operations and horticulture contracts to uphold maintenance standards of the Gardens • Plan, curate and make enhancements to the horticulture landscape and garden attractions as well as plant decorations for events • Involved in sustainability and innovative project trials/pilots such as indoor plant growing and food waste composting initiatives • Assist in the development of garden features that include propagation, maintenance and curation of plant collections for the Garden. • Documenting plant trials, propose best growing practices, and developing best pest management practices and interpretative materials to enhance visitor experience. Apart from the upkeep of the Gardens to provide a safe and pleasant experience for users, you will be involved in a diverse range of activities, including educational and volunteering programming and events, park surveys, citizen science and various landscaping and biodiversity enhancement projects.
What we are looking for
• Degree in Botany, Biological/Environmental Science or related discipline • Enjoy working outdoors, doing field work and interacting with people • Keen interest in nature, plants, greenery and environmental horticulture • Able to multi-task in performing a diverse range of duties, including enforcement when required • Self-motivator and effective team leader • Possess good interpersonal and writing skills to connect with various stakeholders • Willing to work after office hours and during weekends and public holidays when required Successful candidate will be placed on a 9-month employment contract.
