Responsible for providing guidance and support in product stewardship to polyurethane Strategic Business Units (PMU, PMO), plant (PU system, Polyol), sales organization and product developers.
Pre-empt risks of compliance to existing and upcoming product safety regulations to management team and including recommendations and resolutions to overcome the challenges.
Responsibilities
1. Provide product stewardship guidance in strategic business development:
Promote awareness of proactive product stewardship
Provide product safety and regulatory guidance to product development and new markets, including strategy with positive effect on speed to market and compliance cost
Lead sustainability assessment of portfolio of polyurethane strategic business units on regulatory risk and engage business stakeholders to review and trigger substitution plan for identified substance of concern where applicable.
Drive product safety as key element in innovation and sustainable feedstocks such as recycled content and bio-based content.
Engage customer and supplier to address product safety and green procurement related inquiries and respond in a manner that reduce business risks.
Responsible for \xe2\x80\x9ctrain the trainer\xe2\x80\x9d customer education program to promote safe handling of isocyanates which aims to minimize mishandling incidents in the value chain.
Monitor regulatory trends and keep regional leadership apprised of regulatory risks, potentials for non- compliances and related impacts on business and product portfolio development. Provide guidance and recommendation on appropriate measures to meet the challenges.
Implement governance measures and carry out risk assessment in business for selling products into sensitive application such as medical device, food contact, drinking water contact and toy.
Support regional advocacy works on isocyanates and polyurethanes.
2. Drive integration of product compliance and risk management in value chain process to secure \xe2\x80\x9clicense to operate\xe2\x80\x9d of business:
Support Operating Division on management of EHS master data of products and raw materials (e.g., composition, hazard classification, safe handling measures, regulatory information) in SAP database which is used to generate safety datasheet and labelling.
Lead and provide guidance to implementation of compliant supply chain process via collaboration of local organization for trade control, import/export clearance, country safety datasheet & labelling and transportation safety & regulations.
Provide guidance to implement product safety related management of change (MoC) measures along value chain and develop IT tool to facilitate its communication to reduce risk of incompliance.
Lead and provide guidance to cross-functional stakeholders on regulatory compliance requirements and cost related to introducing products to new market and implementation of REACH-like regulations. Align business decision to trigger preparation of dossier for product registration with government authorities via collaboration of country organization.
Collaborate with Operating Division experts and BASF toxicologist to commission analytics, toxicological and/or eco-toxicological studies of product triggered by new regulatory request, new scientific knowledge and new processes, product and application.
Provide guidance to implementation of safe handling and transportation safety measures of dangerous goods products in operation based on hazard assessment of handled substances
Provide guidance to operation for implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices for food contact material in production
Provide guidance and support Responsible Care audit of plant and R&D lab on product stewardship, including ABS / Nagoya regulations.
Lead eco-label certification of products such as Oeko-Tex Ecopassport.
3. Team Leadership
Lead Product Stewardship team for PU, Polyol
Review team performance, development, and improvement measures.
4. Key shared accountabilities with Operating Division:
Support globally relevant product safety topics
Support development of product stewardship strategy
Requirements
Bachelor\'s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
6 to 8 years\' experience in product stewardship, EHS or related functions in chemical industry
Strong working knowledge of polyurethane chemistry, value chain and safe handling in plant operation.
Experience working with chemical regulations, including GHS, safety datasheet, product declaration and registration.
Knowledge of thermoplastics compounding is an advantage.
Understanding of Quality standard ISO9001 and TS16949 is an advantage.
Strong organisational and interpersonal skills in multicultural environment
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
SAP knowledge is an advantage.
