Managing Editor Fx/rates

Job Description

Bloomberg News is one of the biggest financial and business news organizations in the world. We lead the way in breaking news and providing analysis on financial markets, from daily coverage through to in-depth features. We are known for our quality, accuracy and ability to deliver news investors can use. It's what keeps us inventing and re-inventing, all the time.

Bloomberg News is seeking an experienced journalist for the role of Managing Editor for FX, Rates and Emerging Markets in the Asia Pacific region, to helm coverage for some of the world's biggest and deepest financial markets. FX and rates are at the heart of Bloomberg customers' daily workflow and the forefront of some of the biggest global stories - whether it's inflation spurring currency wars, bond markets questioning central bank policies, or geopolitical risks driving investors into haven assets.

You will set the agenda for a global and sophisticated audience on some of the region's biggest stories, from the fate of the Bank of Japan's yield-curve control policy to the volatility of China's bond markets and the effects of a strong dollar and recession risks on a swath of currencies. You will be trusted to guide and mentor one of the region's largest teams and a group of talented senior reporters and work closely with regional and global markets managers on cross-asset and global market trends. The goal is to ensure seamless coverage for both expert professionals and the broader business audience in close collaboration with the FX/Rates and EM teams in Europe and the Americas as well as with other markets teams in Asia. What you'll need to have is exceptional news judgment and leadership skills and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure real-time news environment.

We'll trust you to:

  • Manage and coordinate the production of stories on everything from intraday market moves in short format to magazine-length pieces identifying long-term market trends
  • Guide coverage that centers not just on "what happened" but also on the "why" and "so what," keeping content market-focused and telling the biggest stories to the widest audience
  • Collaborate across markets teams and work with the broader global newsroom to help champion markets stories across platforms and keep the rest of the newsroom informed on the biggest market trends
  • Cultivate an environment that urges creativity and innovation in story-telling ideas, format and presentation
  • Strike a balance between turning complex topics into compelling narratives and keeping them relevant for the well-informed markets professional
  • Advocate for First Word channels targeting FX, rates and volatility traders and other professionals
  • Guide and mentor team leaders, editors, reporters and strategists
  • Identify and sponsor the development of up-and-coming talent

You'll need to have:
  • At least 8 years of recent experience as a financial reporter or editor
  • At least 8 years of experience in a real-time news environment
  • Proven experience leading, coaching and/or developing teams in a newsroom
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A passion for real-time news and curiosity about what drives markets and investment strategies
  • A solid understanding of financial markets as well as the underlying economics, policy, politics and geopolitical trends that can impact investor sentiment
  • Strong editing skills and news judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and platforms and the drive to innovate and experiment
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organisation
