Wealth and Personal Banking is our new global business combining Retail Banking and Wealth Management; and Global Private Banking, to become one of the world's largest global wealth managers with USD1.4 trillion in assets. We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Market Activation Lead (Asia).

Principal Responsibilities

Wealth and Personal Banking serves more than 50 million customers worldwide with a complete range of banking and wealth management services, enabling customers to manage their finances and protect and build their financial futures.

We're building a new strategic digital business within HSBC Group, with the ambition to become a leading player in the global payments and FX market, supporting foreign currency and payment needs of internationally minded customers around the world.

The business will support a standalone global wallet and payments app, with a narrow proposition, but the breadth to reach a large base of customers across the globe, accelerating our international ambition and extending HSBC's global reach.

The purpose of this role is to spearhead market activation for our new business with focus on Asian and Middle-eastern markets. This will involve working in go to market (GTM) and Commercialisation tribe and work alongside the various other Tribes to stitch various elements of the proposition through to effective planning for ongoing commercialization and benefits realization.

The role holder must be an energized, ambitious and high performing change leader who will work with Delivery, Product, Messaging and Commercialisation and Operational teams to ensure that all business readiness tasks including feature activation, operational impact assessment, internal and external communications (including Go To Market), training, pilot, migration and implementation tasks for example, relevant in-country regulatory approvals and broader governance tasks, are completed.

The successful role holders will need to be able demonstrate the follow key attributes:

  • Change Navigation - the ability to navigate a complex matrix organisation, develop domain knowledge and influence stakeholders
  • Outcome Focus - the ability to clarify business outcomes, key performance indicators and ensure the solutions best address problem statement and deliver anticipated benefits
  • Accountable from initial design through to ongoing feature enablement providing strong delivery and product commercialisation capabilities in target launch markets and supporting all business readiness activity
  • Responsible for and accountable to both the Chief Commercial Officer and the Head of Delivery, for defining Market Activation approach that is scalable and optimizes reuse across markets/products
  • Responsible for process review following each customer activation to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and to ensure these are implemented in future activations
  • Accountability to leadership for spearheading market activation for Asia against enterprise level OKRs through leading feature enablement and ensuring local market benefits are realised
  • Initially individual contributor but later lead a team of Market Activation Managers in Asia, developing and enhancing change capabilities across the wider teams, promoting best practice and re-use globally
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) across all areas of responsibility
  • Work in a collaborative environment as part of a cross-functional team (a.k.a. squad) grouping various skillets and disciplines
  • Bridge the gap between team members, be the core liaison facilitating the partnership across disciplines (product, technology, risks, operations, legal, design, etc.)
  • Maintain trusted relationships with all team members and solution vendors, facilitating overall consensus
  • Equally learn from others and teach to others to produce collectively the best outcomes and business value
  • Initially individual contributor but later lead a team of Market Activation Managers in Asia, developing and enhancing change capabilities across the wider teams, promoting best practice and re-use globally

Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in Payments domain, ideally in Asian market
  • Strong market understanding (macro-economic, regulatory and ideally fintech space) of Asia
  • Experience within a large, matrix organisation and in managing successfully in challenging environments
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills to satisfy a wide range of internal and external customers with conflicting priorities and the ability to lead and influence
  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, to explain complex or technical issues
  • Pragmatic decision-making skills, with the ability to make clear judgments based on data-driven insights
  • Ability to take a portfolio view and effectively manage multiple market deliveries whilst ensuring each project runs effectively.
  • Respectful of different cultures, working with colleagues from across all 5 regions (North America, LATAM, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe)
  • Able to demonstrate actions and an understanding in working in the best interests of the customer
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective presentation and coaching
  • Excellent relationship management and diplomacy skills, ability to influence and negotiate effectively
  • Collegiate, solutions focused attitude
  • Displays robust judgement
  • Skilled decision maker, able to stand firm and show necessary flexibility where required and is resilient to challenge
