The Global Energy Management & Sales (GEMS) BU, is the fully integrated trading arm of the ENGIE Group. GEMS manages a large and highly diversified energy portfolio, including electricity, natural gas, biomass, LNG and other fuels, CO2 and environmental products, and provides a range of trading risk management solutions to all types of market participants, in Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, South America and the US.

GEMS APAC is managed out of Singapore. The Business Platform’s purpose is to perform and develop GEM’s trading activities in the APAC and ANZ region around 4 main pillars: risk management and market access, asset management, green solutions and energy supply businesses.

WHAT WILL BE YOUR ROLE

Organization The trading Market Risk team ensures that trading activities are in line with the Market Risk Policy and the limit framework as approved:

  • Analysis of market, liquidity, model, and physical risks
  • Setting and enforcing market risk limits
  • Risk reporting & analysis
  • Control of P&L provisions and marks for commodity curves & parameters
One of ENGIE’s trading entities is a bank-regulated institution in Europe; therefore, systems and procedures are closer to a bank than a physical trader. Commercial activities are integrated between Europe and Asia-Pacific. All processes are defined globally and enforced locally. Local commercial activities include a rapidly growing physical LNG desk, an oil and gas products derivatives desk, and a region-wide APAC power and gas desk. Despite the time difference, maintaining a close relationship with the European teams are vital.

Role

As a Market Risk Analyst, you will report to the Chief Risk Officer, APAC. You will collaborate with the rest of the Market Risk department to fulfill its missions and will be involved in projects spanning multiple groups across commercial functions and staff.

Main Activities

The main responsibilities are:

  • Challenge positions and trading strategies
  • Develop market risk framework for new businesses
  • Evaluate new transactions and business lines, presenting to executive committees in HQ
  • Prepare limit modification requests from Front Office
  • Produce risk indicators and reports across multiple ETRM systems
  • Validate curves and parameters used in the commodity valuations
  • Simulate risk consumption for hypothetical or potential transactions
  • Assess and adjust reserves to be charged against new transactions.
  • Maintain and improve Market Risk tools and reporting templates
YOUR PROFILE Education / Seniority
  • 5+ years prior relevant experience, at least several of which specifically in market risk
  • Previous working experience in energy commodities
  • Strong energy market fundamentals knowledge, at least some of: oil, gas, power, green solutions
  • Possess a Bachelor or Masters degree in a quantitative discipline

Hard Skills

  • Solid understanding of derivatives and Greeks
  • Accustomed to a fast-paced, dynamic trading floor environment
  • High level of integrity for work output and able to manage conflicting demands
  • Programming skills: expert in VBA for Excel
  • Detail-focused and process-oriented.
