Data Storage and Memory Devices research explore novel data storage technology at device and systems level and create proof-of-concept (PoC) for the fast-growing datasphere and further exploring device innovations at micro/nano scale that leverage Seagate core competencies.
About the role - you will:
This is a position for an engineering professional who is keen to research and develop proof of concepts in novel data storage devices. The engineer will contribute to the development of new, cutting-edge technologies for storage platforms. The successful candidate will work with the global team of Seagate Research and collaborate with industry, research institution and academia to advance the data storage solutions.
About you:
Develop novel architecture of storage components and system to fulfill the future data storage need by applying scientific and engineering principles ranging from but not limited to mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism and materials engineering.
Support mechanical design, prototype, and verification test for SRG (SG) projects.
Contribute to growing Intellectual Property.
Work with cross-functional teams, actively seek out and collect input from stakeholders across supporting disciplines
Source components and interface with suppliers
Compare performance and cost of design options in a data driven manner
Perform mechanical and thermal analysis of subsystem / system designs
Perform and execute verification testing of subsystems and systems
Follow through on transfer of new ideas into proof of concepts, track issues in development, and implement resolution of issues
Your experience includes:
Bachelor, MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics & Materials Sciences, or related discipline.
Enthusiastic to gather new knowledge, positive attitude, self-motivated and excellent teamwork.
Experience in creating CAD models, part and assembly drawings.
Experience in finite element analysis tools.
Experience in geometric tolerances and statistical tolerance analysis.
Strong foundations in mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism.
Knowledge of selection of electromechanical components such as motors, power transmission components and sensors will be an added advantage
