The Nat Cat Expert will play a key role in in developing, evaluating, and validating Nat Cat catastrophe models, supporting property underwriting, and providing advanced analytics for catastrophe risk management. Based in the APA region, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in catastrophe modeling, with additional experience in property underwriting and analytics considered a significant advantage.
Your Role:
Catastrophe Risk Assessment: Design, implement, and calibrate probabilistic and deterministic Cat risk models; conduct seismic vulnerability analysis, loss estimation, and exposure data management for various regions, especially in Asia-Pacific.
Underwriting & Portfolio Analytics: Collaborate with underwriting teams to provide technical insights, risk analytics, and support for property portfolios Nat Cat risk; deliver advanced analytics for catastrophe risk management, including real-time event analysis, reporting, and claims support.
Research & Innovation: Lead and participate in research projects related to Nat Cat analysis. Present output to stakeholders and publish and present the key findings at conferences.
Stakeholder Engagement: Work with internal and external clients, including insurers, reinsurers, government agencies, and academic partners, to deliver actionable insights and solutions.
Training & Capacity Building: Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops, and seminars on Nat Cat risk modeling and disaster risk management.
Renewal support: Support UW teams across APA during key renewals
Programming & Data Analytics: Build scripts and tools for model automation, data analysis, and visualization using programming languages and GIS platforms.
Your Profile:
PhD or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geoscience, or a related field.
Proven experience in Cat model development, catastrophe risk modeling, and vulnerability assessment.
Strong programming skills (Python, R, MATLAB, SQL) and proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS).
Demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, and data visualization.
Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Track record of publications in scientific journals and presentations at international conferences.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Property underwriting experience and/or advanced analytics in catastrophe modeling.
Experience in multi-hazard risk assessment (flood, landslide, tsunami) and climate change adaptation.
Familiarity with insurance and reinsurance industry practices.
Project management and client-facing experience.
