Job Description


The operating theatre Nurse Manager provides nursing leadership and in an oversight capacity for the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient perioperative care for the patient, undergoing dental surgery. Ensures that operating theatre department attains high standard of nursing care to achieve identified outcomes according to NDCS policy and procedure. Responsible to manpower planning recruitment and budgeting.

Role and Responsibilities of Operating Theatre Nurse Manager

  • Assess, plans, evaluates and ensures the implementation of safe and competent patient\'s care in the operating theatre department
  • Plan and co-ordinate the utilization of all operating theatres in NDCS
  • Identifies appropriate communication, and coordination to ensure harmonization of standards and practices across all operating theatres
  • Provide clinical guidance to Nursing and Dental Assisting staff on perioperative care, maintaining standards in surgical asepsis and infection control practices
  • Develop, implement and collaborate with multi-disciplinary team to promote a safe and caring operating theatre environment that demonstrates accessibility of safe equipment and adequate supplies in an efficiently arranged physical setting
  • Be knowledgeable in the functions, usage, care and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation in operating theatre and Specialist Outpatient Clinic (SOC)
  • Participate in the evaluation of dental products and equipment
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Infection Preventive Control Chairperson in identifying infection risks for NDCS operating theatres patients, staff, and visitors in the development and review of infection prevention and control policies and guidelines
  • Participate in professional activities related to infection prevention and control
  • Proficient and dexterous in scrub and circulating room nurse duties.
  • Investigate and reply to patient\'s feedback and problem solve clinical related activities. Conduct service recovery or perform remedial actions expeditiously
  • Assist the supervisor to coordinate, conduct and monitor clinical and service quality performance (key) indicators for continuous improvement
  • Identify opportunities and lead quality improvement initiatives, nursing research and QI projects
  • Provides a mechanism to monitor and enforce staff compliance to regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Monitors fiscal budget to control operational and capital expenditures while monitoring and adjusting staffing patterns to improve unit productivity
  • Demonstrates the ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities while maintaining a leadership and mentoring environment
  • Participates in all relevant committees
  • Provide coverage of duties during absence of SOCs and CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department) nurse managers
Requirements:
  • Applicants must be registered with Singapore Nursing Board and hold a valid Practicing Certificate
  • Must possess a Bachelor\'s Degree in Nursing and an approved Post Basic Certificate or Advanced Diploma in Perioperative Nursing
  • Minimum 10 years as a registered nurse and clinical experience in health care setting
  • Minimum 3 years nursing and supervisory and management experience in an operating theatre setting
  • Valid BCLS certification
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, leadership and managerial qualities, professional judgment, critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Possess teaching abilities and a sense of professional development
  • Ability to multi-tasking and work both independently and cooperatively in team setting
  • Good written and oral communication skills
