Job Description



As an Oceanographic Engineer, you will be involved in all aspects of marine surveys to include Metocean field engineering activities, contributing to high HSE standards, maintenance, testing and preparation of Metocean equipment, deployment, and recovery of Metocean equipment and offshore client liaison. The role of an Oceanographic Engineer is varied and offers the opportunity to work on projects for offshore wind farms, renewable energy, and oil & gas. This position will suit entry level or experienced technicians or engineers looking for a more varied career. The projects range from one or two days to longer trips of up to two or three weeks with the potential to work all over the world. Our engineers are involved in a mixture of offshore and coastal vessels, drilling platforms, and any offshore and onshore installation. As no two projects are the same, you will need to be resourceful and flexible and enjoy working in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

  • Experienced with installing and commissioning instrumentation in an industrial setting
Who you'll be working with:

Reporting to the Service Line Manager within the Metocean department you will work in small teams of Oceanographic Engineers and Project Managers.

Here's what a typical day would be like:
  • Involvement with planning and executing operations.
  • Work alongside party chiefs on site and metocean engineers to deliver safe and successful site operations.
  • Prepare technical documentation and establish technical procedures.
  • Prepare HSE documentation
  • Take a role in suggesting and implementing improvements to procedures where applicable.
  • Servicing, set-up, deployment, and operations of metocean equipment, such as metocean buoys, seabed systems, permanent environmental & weather monitoring stations, wave radar and tide gauges, as well as oceanographic moorings.
  • Carry out review of data and prepare visit reports.
  • Perform administrative duties incl. compilation of project procedures and maintaining an accurate and complete log.
Who we're looking for:

Essential
  • It is preferred that you have previous experience in a similar role.
  • Previous offshore experience and willing to work offshore for extended periods as required
  • Experience using oceanographic and meteorological equipment (or similar) and proficient in the setup and operation of commonly used sensors.
  • Familiar with technical drawings and documentation
  • Understand the principles of real-time data, data acquisition and data QC and are proficient in the use of software.
  • Good at problem solving, enjoy tackling technical challenges.
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines within short notice changes.
  • A systematic and methodical approach with a fine attention to detail.
  • A can-do attitude and good communication and language skills in English (reading, written and spoken).
  • Full driving licence.
