UWCSEA has a vacancy for August 2024 for an Outdoor Education Specialist Development Pathway. This is a dual campus role supporting students from both East and Dover. It is initially a one year contract with further opportunity for extension by mutual agreement and/ or department requirements.The Outdoor Education department supports an articulated experiential programme from K1 to G11 to ensure successful curriculum-based activities and expeditions. As an Outdoor Education Specialist Development Pathway you will work alongside experienced Outdoor Education Specialists to develop necessary skills, knowledge and experience to be confident and competent in all aspects of the responsibilities of the role described below.Year on Year the Outdoor Education Specialist Development Pathway will build on the various key aspects of Outdoor Education in the College: Leading students on residential expeditions, conducting adventure activities, diligently and confidently attend to wilderness first aid, delivering day sessions to students, administrative and reporting activities and working collaboratively with team members.Please note that to apply for this role, you should be currently residing in Singapore and be eligible to work in Singapore.Main Responsibilities

  • Outdoor Education Specialists - Development Pathway will develop leadership capacity with students on residential expeditions and create memorable experiences by allowing students to take on experiential challenges that build resilience, collaboration, leadership skills and connection to nature.
  • Developing competencies and conducting adventure activities such as camp craft, mountaineering, trekking, climbing, sea and white-water kayaking, dinghy sailing and safety boat.
  • Be able to diligently and confidently attend to wilderness first aid and child safeguarding situations during expeditions.
  • Developing skills in delivering day sessions to students eg. High Ropes Course, Expedition Training, Kayaking, Orienteering, Problem Solving, Team Building
  • Developing skills in curriculum development, office-based planning and preparation for expeditions including liaising with third-party providers, reviewing Standard Operating Procedures, and maintaining equipment. Reporting on activities and expeditions in general and specifically accidents, incidents and near miss in an ongoing process to support risk management.
  • Duties will require a flexible and creative approach and will include working with K-12 students.
Person Specifications
  • A good Degree and a recognized teaching qualification or relevant certifications is preferred.
  • At least 2 years experience teaching Outdoor Education/ Adventure based learning.
  • First Aid Certificate [Current Validity]
  • A governing body adventure activity leader award or equivalent site specific experience
  • Expectations include enthusiastic participation in Personal and Professional Learning.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
  • Experience of Child Safeguarding Practices.
  • Self-motivated, well organized, computer literate, conscientious, and resilient.

  • Wilderness Advanced First Aid
  • Powerboat Driver or Safety Boat
  • Singapore Marine Port Authority Powered Pleasure Craft Driving Licence,

  • Raft Guide
  • White Water Rescue Technician
  • Mountain Leader
  • Cycling/Mountain Biking Instructor

  • National Youth Achievement Award or Duke of Edinburgh International Award Assessor
