Works in an established team under supervision. Support infrastructure engineers in their daily work to ensure support and maintenance of infrastructure solutions and services as directed and according to QBE and divisional policy.
Primary Responsibilities

  • Information Security - Maintains the security, confidentiality and integrity of information systems through compliance with relevant legislation and regulations. Designs, implements and operates controls and management strategies to allow this.
  • IT Infrastructure - Supports, designs and implements infrastructure technologies and solutions such as: compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, database, middleware, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
  • Ownership & Initiative - Takes ownership of problems and proactively resolves technical problems, ensuring that technical solutions continue to meet business requirements. Takes full accountability for actions taken and decisions made.
  • Problem Solving - Understands and identifies problems, analysing and helping to identify the appropriate solution. Can classify and prioritise problems, document their causes and implement remedies.
  • System Design - Creates the specification and design of systems to meet defined business needs. Has the ability to work with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs. Able to visualise the ideal user service, come up with design ideas and possible design approaches. Explores different approaches to solving problems.
  • Technical Understanding - Has the specific knowledge which underpins an individual’s ability to deliver the responsibilities and tasks of their role. This relates to the application of the required breadth and depth of technical knowledge.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem resolution - Has lateral thinking capability to dissect a problem into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes, allowing problem resolution. Able to troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Required Experience

  • 1 year relevant experience

Preferred Competencies/Skills

  • Information Security - Awareness - Aware of information security and the security controls that can be used to mitigate security threats within solutions and services
  • IT Infrastructure - Awareness - Supports infrastructure solutions and services, and other computer, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source packages and solutions, virtual and cloud including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS
  • Ownership & initiative - Awareness - Aware of the problem resolution processes and passes the problem to their team
  • Problem solving - Awareness - Able to investigate problems in systems, processes and services, with an understanding of the level of a problem (e.g. strategic, tactical, operational). Can contribute to the implementation of remedies and preventative measures
  • System Design - Awareness - Assists as part of a team on design of components of larger systems
  • Technical Understanding - Awareness - Aware of the subject matter and has a high-level understanding of what it involves
  • Troubleshooting & problem resolution - Awareness - Able to troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities

Preferred Licenses/Certifications

  • Preferred certification - CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)

Preferred Knowledge

  • Awareness of Windows client and server operating systems; their implementation & management in an enterprise environment, along with troubleshooting skills
  • Awareness of Citrix family of hosting and publishing technologies; including XenApp, XenDesktop, and Citrix Cloud
  • Awareness of Estate management & software deployment technologies, including Microsoft Software Center Configuration Manager and Microsoft Application Virtualization
  • Awareness of Active Directory & associated technologies; implementation & management in an enterprise environment
  • Awareness of Microsoft Azure, and Office 365 messaging & collaboration services; their implementation and management in an enterprise environment
  • Awareness of Cyber Security principles & practices, with experience of working in regulated environment
  • Awareness of ITIL service management principles & tools, and their use in an enterprise environment, including ServiceNow and Jira

  • Infrequent (approximately 1-4 trips annually)

  • General office jobs: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is not substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate basic office equipment including telephone, headset and computer. Incumbent must be able to lift basic office equipment up to 20 lbs.
