Job SummarySinBerBEST is a large joint research project between UC Berkeley, National University of Singapore, and Nanyang Technological University. This effort aims to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, and indoor environmental quality in buildings in tropical climates. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers funded by Singapore's National Research Foundation. The Postdoctoral Scholars positions are for candidates that obtained (or are in the process of obtaining) their doctoral degree within the last five years.We are seeking an energetic, creative, and outgoing Postdoctoral scholar with expertise in robot manipulation to play an active role in an new effort in robotic construction. This multidisciplinary research initiative is based in Singapore and includes 20+ faculty and industry sponsors UC Berkeley, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. Our goal is to shape a new program, capitalizing on SinBerBEST successes, to catalyse cutting-edge research in Robot Learning Human-Robot Interaction, Deep Learning, Bio-Inspired Design, and Cloud Robotics, with a scope of applications in construction and assembly.The candidate will be based in Singapore at BEARS, a UC Berkeley centre for research, graduate education, and innovation in Singapore. All appointments are for an initial period of one year with the possibility of renewal.   • 50% effort with Lead Principal Investigator Professor Costas Spanos and Professor Ken Goldberg, affiliated faculty members, and graduate students on research
  • 50% effort as a Research Coordinator, working with Profs. Goldberg and Spanos on strategy, outreach, and coordinating research seminars, panels, workshops and other events, summarizing research, identifying opportunities for collaboration, and extending public awareness via websites, flyers, and social media.
  • A major objective in the next 12 months will be the development of a large proposal on Smart Construction, and the Postdoc will play a key programmatic role in coordinating the meetings, discussions and materials that will be used in this effort.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Must have received Ph.D. or equivalent prior to start date but within 5 years of start date.
  • Research experience in Robotics and Robot Manipulation, preferably in Construction and Assembly.
  • Enthusiasm for outreach, academic event planning, and outreach/social media.
  • Ability to write and develop drafts for publication.
  • Communication skills needed for project management and liaison with project team and external collaborators.
