What the role is
This position will involve developing a research programme on orchid taxonomy/systematics and conservation in Singapore and the wider Southeast Asian region, with a particular focus on contributing to the Flora of Singapore and the development of evidence-based conservation strategies. You will be expected to work closely with other researchers in Singapore Botanic Gardens and other Divisions of the National Parks Board.
What you will be working on
• Develop and undertake a research programme on orchid taxonomy and/or molecular systematics in Singapore and the wider Southeast Asian region. • Contribute floristic accounts for the Flora of Singapore and other Asian Floras. • Contribute to the development of evidence-based conservation strategies to maintain and enhance orchid diversity in Singapore. • To document and publish the results from research as both scholarly and semi-popular accounts that would bring credit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens and the National Parks Board. • To network and form collaborations within Singapore and the region that would enhance the botanical research and development capabilities of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. • To assist in capacity building in botany and ecology in Singapore and the wider region.
What we are looking for
• PhD in Plant Sciences / Life Sciences / Ecology with a specialisation in taxonomy, conservation, molecular systematics, population genomics, or related research fields. • At least five years of post-PhD research experience. • Fieldwork experience, including botanical collecting, especially in the Southeast Asian region. • Experience in writing scientific papers and reviews, popular articles, and grant proposals. • Ability to develop a wide personal network and engage collaborators from the Southeast Asian region. • Independent, with a positive attitude and a good team player.
