About the Role FMC is establishing a Singapore Technical Center (STC) with the objective of expanding its chemistry, engineering and analytical capabilities in the region. The mission of the STC is to provide long-term sustainable process technology supporting the growth of our global business. This includes development of new chemical processes suitable for implementation at commercial scale, as well as, chemistry and engineering improvement of our current operations.

We are looking to hire a seasoned professional who will be responsible for chemical process development activities at our STC, reporting directly to the Chemistry Team Leader based in Singapore. He/she will work closely with our global teams to manage a technical project portfolio, executing against strategies that drive business results.
This role requires a strong background in organic synthesis and process chemistry. As part of a cross-functional team of chemists, analytical scientists and engineers, the Process Chemist will conduct hands-on laboratory-based programs to develop chemical processes suitable for commercial manufacture. This includes engagement during all phases of process development, with responsibilities from early stage ideation to implementation in manufacturing plants.


More specifically, the responsibilities associated with this role include:

  • Strict observance and adherence to required FMC safety procedures
  • Design and hands-on execution of laboratory experiments to demonstrate commercial process feasibility and to establish essential chemistry/engineering parameters.
  • Development of process concepts for chemical synthetic routes/manufacturing processes.
  • Development of basic data, definition of operating conditions and critical limits, and establishment of safety and quality parameters for the commercial process through scale up
  • Design, direct, and coordinate work with external research partners to supplement internal experimental programs.
  • Effective documentation and transfer of technology to the manufacturing network.
  • Provide chemistry expertise during cases of plant operation product quality issues
  • Participate in the planning and start-up of commercial operations


About You
The key to success in this position is a strong drive for results and desire to lead the way and be part of a high performing team at the Singapore Technical Center. As you will be interacting with a broad global network of stakeholders, it\xe2\x80\x99s important that you possess strong people and communication skills and are able to collaborate effectively both externally and internally across functions and countries.
We also imagine that you have:
  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry
  • Minimum 2-5 years of R&D experience in agro or pharmaceutical or fine/specialty chemical industry or postdoctoral experience with focus on organic synthesis is required.
  • Familiarity with concepts of developing safe and cost-effective chemical processes
  • Demonstrated experience in process scale-up to Kilo Lab and/or Pilot Plant scale will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in troubleshooting issues encountered during scale-up or technology transfer of chemical processes
  • Experience working with CRO\xe2\x80\x99s
  • Experience and/or strong interests in interdisciplinary project work - project management experience will be an added advantage
  • Experience working as an individual and as an effective team player
  • Experience in effectively mentoring other team members
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse group
  • Experience in working in dynamic, timeline driven environment
  • Strong track record of delivering high quality results that meet or exceed expectations
  • Flexible work schedules to accommodate work performed in different geographies required.
  • Ability to travel to international sites may be required (up to 10%)
