ARS-PD (Advanced Recording Subsystem - Product Development) is a section under the ARS organization umbrella that includes HME (Head Media Electrical), HDM (Head Disk Mechanical), Read-Write channel and preamp.

This ARS-PD group has a wide spectrum covering integration of head, media, air-bearing tribology, channel SOC, preamp, cert/field algorithm features with engineers holding roles of subject-matter-experts and/or cross-functional leads who work to support Program Core Teams.

About the role - you will:

Dual Role & Responsibilities

• 1st role (primary): Drive-in-situ tests ownership in both Client and Nearline product segments of current technology of PMR (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording). Impart higher level subjects such as ATI (Adjacent Track Interference) mitigation and AFH (Adaptive Fly-Height) technology will be part of learning. Opportunity in working on new frontier technology such as HAMR (Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording).

• Knowledge: Magnetic Storage fundamentals, Head/Media Electrical Spin-stand testing are preferred but could be sent for accelerated courses and OJT.
• Skillsets needed: Python programming, C++, Procomm Plus.

• 2nd role (secondary): SF3 coding for system VBAR (Variable Bit Aspect Ratio) to assist VBAR architect in innovation projects. Take part in yield improvement projects that involve optimizing drive VBAR algorithm.

• Knowledge: Accelerated courses and OJT (On Job Training) will be provided.
• Skillsets needed: Python programming, C++, Procomm Plus.

Your experience includes:

• Fundamental knowledge in hard-drive magnetic recording physics is preferred.
• Preferred software coding experience in Python programming, C++, Procomm Plus.
• Final year projects or internship experience that having good hands-on and problem-solving in software coding would be a plus point.

Location:

The Shugart site (named after Seagate\'s founder, Al Shugart) is a research and design center. Easily accessible from the One-North MRT Station, many employees choose to take mass-transportation to work. Ample free on-site parking is also available. Being a purpose built building; The Shugart has excellent employee recreational facilities. Take an active break at our badminton courts, table tennis tables, in-house gym and recreation rooms.
