In Voyage Services Research and Development is centralized and standardized on the development model Scaled Agile Framework.

In the Scaled Agile Framework as implemented by Voyage Services, the roles are as follows:

Senior Manager, Process Governance has overarching responsibility of the execution of Scaled Agile Framework in Voyage Services R&D.

The organisation is divided up into five Release Trains, each one led by a Head of Engineering.

Each Release Train has one Architect, whose responsibility it is to ensure that the correct tools and methods are used to deliver the product, and that the product is developed using an appropriate software architecture.

The Software Engineers, Software Testing Engineers, DevOps Engineers and other specialist roles are grouped into Agile Teams.

Each Agile Team has a Product Development Manager, whose responsibility it is to plan the contents of Epics by breaking them down into Features and estimating their effort together with the Architect, and to ensure that the result of the product development work is the right solution.

There is one Agile Coach per release train, whose job it is to support the Release Trains in implementing the Scaled Agile Framework.

The Product Design function supports all roles in converting Epics to Features and User stories through design and prototyping.

As a Product Development Manager you will be working to prepare detailed work for an Agile Team and ensure that the result of the development is what was needed. You will be collaborating with the Product Managers in Product Lines and working with designers and architects to get high level epics defined as Features and User Stories with relevant detail. You will also be ensuring that the result of the product development work fulfils the goals set for the development work.

This particular position will be in Ports release train and you will report to the Head of Engineering, Ports.

Your role & responsibilities

Key responsibilities of Product Development Manager

Break down Epics into Features and User Stories so that they are ready for implementation when a new Voyage Services wide iteration starts.

Ensure that iteration results and delivered products meet the original requirements together with Product Managers.

Ensure that the team understands the work ahead and can implement the development results.

Other activities

Together with the Product Manager act as the voice of the customer to ensure the development team is building the right product.

Manage the backlog by ensuring that Features and User Stories are maintained and used by the teams for their job management.

Ensure that when an iteration ends, the team is able to park current scope of work and take on different priorities.

Ensure that progress metrics are produced and reported.

Facilitate team ownership of the products being shipped.

Work with the Agile Coaches to remove impediments preventing the team from making progress.

Work with other product development managers to resolve dependencies and coordinate collaboration.

Requirements

3+ years of experience as product development manager or similar role.

Experience of working in complex organizations, agile way of working and SCRUM process.

Ability to translate Epics into actionable features and user stories.

Excellent stakeholder management, collaboration, and presentation skills.

Understanding of Voyage Services product portfolio.

Ability to build & develop trustful professional relationships with ease across your business stakeholders including customers and peers.

Fluent in spoken and written English.
