Programme Leader (ma Music Therapy)

Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

The MA in Music Therapy is a new and innovative programme informed by the significant benefits of music as a therapeutic intervention and is a response to the growing demand for creative therapies in Singapore and the region.

Taking its first intake in August 2024, the MA Music Therapy programme builds on LASALLE\'s successful MA Art Therapy programme which underscores our institutional ability to create a sustainable and prominent educational experience in arts-based therapies.

As the first of its kind in Singapore, this two-year programme prepares musicians for careers as music therapists across a wide range of settings such as community facilities, schools, hospitals, care homes and private practice. Drawing on theoretical and practical developments in the field, students will be provided opportunities to learn how to use their musical skills to deliver potentially life-changing interventions across various age groups from preschool children to the elderly.

An essential feature of the programme is the use of structured and supervised clinical placements throughout the course of study. Application to practice allows students to translate complex theory and emerging research into meaningful, relevant and context-specific practice, further allowing students to discover their own style of practice aligned to established standards, ethics and guidelines.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic Programme Leader to direct and teach this exciting new programme.

The successful candidate will be a credentialed music therapist and educator with an established track record of clinical experience, research, pedagogy and programme leadership. You will bring an innovative and responsive approach to the application of music to therapies designed to increase and support mental well-being and health.

The programme resides in the School of Creative Industries of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Media & Creative Industries. Reporting to the Head of School, your key responsibilities will include the organisation, planning and delivery of the programme. As a programme leader, you will create a stimulating environment for students and will set the strategic direction of the programme to ensure it meets the high standards of the postgraduate programmes at LASALLE.

As a faculty member, you are expected to contribute to the research culture of the College through scholarly work and/or practice-led research in music therapy. Your key operational responsibilities include overseeing the curriculum and its development, planning and coordination of classes and managing students\' creative output, ensuring high levels of quality assurance to meet the academic standards of the College and managing the programme efficiently within the allotted resources and budget, which includes selection and management of part-time staff and a range of visiting artists, and the building of good working relationships with internship and placement providers, the local music therapy association, with industry and relevant stakeholders..

This programme is a rare opportunity for the successful candidate to demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking and establish a clear vision to build a new programme and make a significant contribution to the creative therapies sector.
