What a Quality Strategist, Innovation Product Development does at HP: Your job scope covers ensuring that our products meet the expectations of our customers in terms of experience and quality. This responsibility begins early in our development phase, where the team investigates new processes and technologies that could impact the quality of the product, and mitigating these risks through the validation phases. That includes making quality assessments and risk appraisals to executive leadership. Additionally, this role is responsible for the successful roll out of the various products in the initial months of the ramp into the marketplace and also to see it through the EOL (end-of-life) quality. You will work with other cross-functional leaders from engineering, external partners and vendors, procurement and operations and product management throughout all aspects of their work. The successful candidate will establish quality goals and monitor performance with the platform team, investigating the full suite of failure analysis leading to root cause determination and subsequent closed loop corrective action. Also, you will lead the quality prevention process and institutes remedies to prevent re-occurrence of quality issues and possess a high sense of urgency when managing critical issues.

  • Investigate and build product quality goals of the platforms/products by parsing through the reference quality data as well as evaluating the goal adjustment to best fit the platforms\xe2\x80\x99 design uniqueness as well as use cases.
  • Program manages product quality throughout planning, execution, and sustaining phase.
  • Develops and directs development of schedules, critical deliverables, budget, resource allocation plan, product quality plan, and other support requirements for assigned program with a major focus on quality.
  • Understand the technology and functionality of consumer electronic products, assessing the risk to a negative customer experience, thereby preventing issues during development and in the marketplace.
  • Be an expert in advanced quality methods and protocol.
  • Drive investigation, customer field captures, root cause failure analysis, containment, corrective actions and process improvements to prevent issue recurrence
  • Manage issues that span one or more Products and influence quick containment in the Supplier and sub-tier supplier manufacturing processes
  • Supports project teams and internal development partners; ensures progress against established plan and makes determinations based on analysis of business information to alter or update schedule and resource allocation to meet product requirements and development schedule.
  • Communicates quality program progress, escalations, and issue analysis to product stakeholders; collaborates with management and internal manufacturing and development partners to recommend and implement changes to product, processes, or business practices to resolve escalated issues, produce solutions, and ensure adherence to budgets and established product roadmaps and schedules
  • Align cross-functionally, influencing a broad spectrum of stakeholders to deliver on the quality policy.
  • Be enthusiastic of driving innovation and integration of new technologies and quality initiatives into projects and activities in the manufacturing and/or engineering organization.
  • Build rapports and connect people for relationships with outsourced development partners on electrical hardware design and development.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.
Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:
  • Degree in computer science and general computer engineering/Electrical Engineering/Software engineering or a technical discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in similar roles as Product Development/Engineering Program Management, preferably in PC industry or relevant Consumer Electronics.
  • Knowledge of PC system configuration and architecture to enable design of experiments in problem reproduction and root cause analysis as well as system setup, teardown, and configuration.
  • Familiar with product life cycle management, from concept, define, plan through develop, launch and sustaining to End of Life (EOL)
  • Familiar with quality control methods and problem-solving tools, including DFX, DFMEA, 6Sigma, Fishbone etc.
  • Understanding of ODM production process is a plus.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and successful experience managing all aspects of programs, including communicating with stakeholders and directing matrixed teams and resources.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple active projects in parallel and ability to keep them moving forward.
  • High levels of independent supervision and ability to determine priorities and juggle multiple responsibilities in parallel.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make difficult decisions involving resources beyond immediate scope of control.
  • Experience in overall architecture of electronic hardware for products and solutions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.
