What a R&D Product Design Engineer does at HP:

• Designs portions of engineering solutions for printer hardware, electronics enclosures, and production tooling based on established engineering fundamentals and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.
• Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability & acoustics.
• Collaborates and communicates with management and internal partners (Design, Safety & Regulatory and Manufacturing) on design development, feasibility study, and issue resolution.
• Develop and build prototypes for validation and testing. Altering designs as necessary to bring them to safety, performance and efficiency of HP\xe2\x80\x99s standards.
• Documenting the design process, iterations, and test analytics.
• Preparing technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.

Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:

• Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Typically 4-6 years experience.
• Strong understanding in plastic design for Consumer Product. Experienced in design complex plastic part that fulfils both Industrial Designer (ID) requirement and tooling capability to allow ease of mass manufacturing.
• Capable of integrating good ergonomic design into engineering solution.
• Using 3D CAD software (CREO Direct Modeling) as a mechanical design tool.
• Designing plastic parts, sheet metal and production tooling and processes.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes; like plastic part texturing, injection molding, metal stamping and cosmetic enhancement secondary process; like spray painting, silk-screening, IMD.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Hands-on and can-do attitude.
• Able to work in a team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
