The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region for CooperVision consists of the country markets of Japan, South Korea, Australia & NZ, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia as well as Asia Distributor markets of Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. APAC regional revenues in 2022 were over USD 512 million, with strong growth opportunities.

The Regional Accounting & Control Manager will play a key, hands-on role in supporting the organization in US GAAP technical accounting matters like Revenue Recognition, Leases accounting, and new standard implementation. He / she will also be reviewing SOX and setting up IPE / MRC process and procedures for all APAC entities as well as drive to influence process improvements. This person will work with multiple teams across the APAC Region, CVI Corporate Finance team and CHQ Technical Accounting team supporting and partnering on various technical accounting and control matters.

The Regional Accounting and Control Manager is a critical business partnering role requiring a high-caliber individual to drive, lead and influence improvements across CooperVision\xe2\x80\x99s financial and commercial processes across APAC Region. The role will be split into 70% on Internal Control/SOX, 20% on Financial Accounting and 10% on Treasury matters.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities

Internal Control and SOX \xe2\x80\x93 70% * Providing technical accounting guidance and recommendations to country accounting teams and stakeholders in close collaboration with CVI Corporate Finance team.

  • Act as a Region lead on all technical accounting matters in relations to US GAAP.
  • Lead and coordinate SOX compliance prior to Internal Audit visit for SOX compliance countries.
  • Set up the IPE and MRC framework across the region.
  • Drive compliance and continuous maintenance of IPE and MRC process and procedures across the region.
  • Identify, assess, document and monitor business processes (including financial systems) that affect the financial reporting, including the use of process narratives & flowcharts as part of IPE and MRC.
  • Evaluate all Customer / Marketing incentive programs to be in conjunction with ASC 606 Revenue Recognition.
  • Drive monthly review of Customer / Marketing incentive program with country team, maintaining of it and report.
  • Develop and deliver training and training materials to countries team on a regular basis on US GAAP - Revenue Recognition, Risks Control Matrix and SOX.
  • Conduct and report on Balance Sheet Reviews (BSR) for each APAC country. Highlight and coordinate areas of improvement and work with the respective country teams to action the recommendations. Monitor and follow up progress until completed.
  • Be an invaluable partner to the country Finance leaders to provide consultation on internal controls and risk matters.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests in respect to internal controls, policies & procedures, process improvement, risk assessments matters.
  • Be the point of contact with Corporate Internal Audit, in relation to internal audit work in the region, aligning on risk areas and focus on the internal audits. Work with the APAC countries to action all remedial work coming out of the internal audit reports.
Financial Accounting \xe2\x80\x93 20% * Month end reporting of any accounting adjustment.
  • Follow up on any accounting memo arises from accounting adjustment.
  • Act as a backup / cover for Regional Internal Control Manager on IC review / Qtrly BS review / APAC Compliance check list / policies, etc.
  • Develop, refresh and rollout Corporate Headquarters and APAC Finance policies and procedures.
Treasury and Others \xe2\x80\x93 10% * Coordinate and review the APAC country cashflow forecasts. Liaise with Corporate Treasury on this, as well as other banking and treasury-related matters.
  • Liaison with Corporate Bankers as Regional Lead for banking matters and corporate card administration.
  • Undertake other projects and duties as agreed with line manager. Example projects include transitioning to new accounting standards on revenue recognition; banking connectivity initiatives in various countries; enhancements to Concur expense reporting and purchase order platform.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge especially Revenue Recognition.
  • Strong knowledge in SOX, IPE and MRC.
  • Have an inquisitive mindset.
  • Excel, PowerPoint and presentation/chart applications skills.
  • Presentation skills, including ability to succinctly summarize key findings and effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
  • Assertive, clear and professional verbal and written communications.
  • Good energy and patience to coach and guide country finance teams
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative & conflict resolution skill.
  • Agility and ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • Logical and organized with the ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines both working autonomously and within a team.
  • Must be capable of working with both speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple conflicting requirements.
  • Multiple Asian language skills would be an advantage.
Work Environment:
  • Standard commercial office environment / setting.
  • Virtual team collaboration between country and regional colleagues.
Experience:
  • Over 8 years\xe2\x80\x99 broad-based internal control and technical accounting experience.
  • External audit experience preferred; with Internal audit experience is highly preferred;
  • Experience of working in a US Multinational or regional / cluster environment would be required.
  • Experience working in or with the APAC countries and with different cultures is a must;
  • US GAAP experience especially in Revenue Recognition required;
  • Collaborative team player with leadership qualities;
  • Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines both working autonomously and within a team;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently at all levels of the organization, create interdepartmental links based on different projects with a respective level of integrity.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
Education:

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or advanced university degree in business, finance or accounting with demonstrable professional experience in a commercial environment.
