Our client, a private equity backed firm, is a leading solutions provider in the packaging industry. Though they have been in business for more than a decade, a lot of strategic investments and changes have happened in the last twelve months and as part of their ambition to grow APAC into the largest contributor amongst the four regions, they are looking for a strategic business developer and leader to step into this Regional Commercial Director, APAC role. You will have full autonomy to make decisions for APAC and in fact, we are looking for someone who can study the market, make recommendations to the board, and execute.
The Regional Commercial Director, APAC is responsible for driving direct and channel sales of machines into the packaging customers and dealers. Besides, this role will be responsible for leading ten headcounts, who cover sales, bids, technical support, and customer care.
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, Global (based in Europe), this role is responsible for:
Design the strategic priorities in APAC and leading implementation
Growing the circa $20m Euro business into a $50-$100m business
Travelling in the region to understand customer pain points and being the voice of customer to the board and making relevant product recommendations
Meeting distributors in the region and driving any changes necessary to such relationships, including performance metrics
Driving initiatives in key markets like China and India and growing them to stage where they in a position to appoint country leaders and operate as independent P&Ls
Having a strong understanding of competitors in the industry and building a competitive edge
Driving a good team culture with the existing and future team members
The Successful Applicant
Degree in mechanical, industrial or a related discipline, followed by an MBA
15 years or more in a strategic business development role or General Management role in APAC, but experience of working outside of APAC too so you can implement best practices from mature markets like North America and EMEA
Prior experience in the packaging industry or a passion for the industry, as this is a technical large value sales environment
Knowledge and expertise in managing sales across India, China, SEA, and ANZ
Experience in driving double digital growth for a B2B sales business
The role requires frequent overseas travel, so you need to be flexible with such requirements
