S+N employs c.18,000 people around the world and had annual sales in 2023 of more than $5.5 billion.The APAC Regional Tax Director role is responsible for tax return and statutory accounts activity for APAC, working with internal finance colleagues (mainly country finance controllers in the Kuala Lumpur Global Business Support centre) and an external outsource provider. The role also requires close working relationships with other stakeholders across the Group, including Group Tax, Group Finance, and other stakeholders across the region.The role provides the opportunity to mitigate potential tax compliance failures by improving consistency and control over tax compliance processes and risks and is responsible for leading the defence of tax audits within the region should these arise.The role additionally presents opportunities to participate in and contribute to valuable business and tax planning and structuring, working under the guidance of the Group Tax department. This is particularly relevant in the context of the APAC and EMEA sports medicine business which is lead from the Group\'s international headquarters in Singapore.What will you be doing?

  • Reviewing and ensuring the accuracy and on-time filing of the tax returns and statutory accounts for all the Group\'s subsidiaries in the APAC region (including Singapore, China, Australia, Japan, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam).
  • Overseeing, on a dotted line basis, Finance personnel located in the Kuala Lumpur Global Business Services centre, who are responsible for providing the data required for the statutory accounts and tax returns preparation process.
  • Working closely with Group Tax to ensure statutory accounts, disclosures and returns accurately reflect Group tax, transfer pricing and intercompany policies and positions. The role provides APAC tax support for half year and year end Group reporting processes.
  • Driving improvements and standardisation of processes and ensuring clear, effective and efficient allocations of responsibilities.
  • Managing the regional relationship with the outsource compliance provider and maintaining other key regional tax advisory relationships, while appropriately managing costs.
  • Ensuring that all tax audit enquiries are dealt with promptly and accurately, exercising appropriate judgement.
  • Maintaining a clear understanding and record of the main tax uncertainty, risk and exposure areas across the region.
  • Involvement as required in tax planning and transfer pricing elements of group initiatives, restructurings, M&A, etc, insofar as they will impact the local country tax returns, statutory accounts and reporting.
  • Maintaining relationships with country/cluster Business Unit Finance Directors, the Indirect Tax team, controllership, and other relevant business contacts, to support business partnering and ensure awareness of developments within the business.
  • Maintaining awareness of developments and changes in tax and accounting laws and practices across the APAC region and supporting Group Tax and APAC country teams by providing or procuring local tax advice as required.
  • The role will require some travel within the APAC region, and occasional travel to other worldwide Group locations.
What will you need to be successful?
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree and Professional accounting and/or tax qualifications
  • Trained at a big 4 accounting firm and have at least 8 years of relevant professional experience, ideally having worked 2-3 years in-house with a global MNC.
  • Fluent in English, and preferably also in Mandarin
  • Positive outlook, confident and robust under pressure. Proactive self-starter with ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Strong communicator with the ability to win confidence and deal with a wide range of internal stakeholders
  • A great team player and a desire to build a culture of performance excellence
  • Strong computer skills including Powerpoint, Word and Excel. Experience of SAP, Hyperion, AX, TM1 and Longview, together with the ability to determine configuration requirements for the needs of the statutory accounting and tax return process, would be a significant plus
