Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing (SoC). SoC is strongly committed to research excellence in all its dimensions: Searching for fundamental results and insights, developing novel computational solutions to a wide range of applications, building large-scale experimental systems and improving the well-being of society. We seek to play an active role both internationally and locally in the core and emerging areas of Computer Science and Information Systems.

The project aims to develop a novel distributed consensus algorithm for Low-Powered Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). While consensus is a desirable property for many WSN applications, well-studied distributed consensus algorithms (e.g., Paxos, Raft) are not suitable in the wireless context. Unlike conventional wired networks, WSNs are susceptible to high degrees of interference and packet-loss. However, physical properties of the wireless signal present interesting opportunities that can be used to achieve reliable consensus.

Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will be responsible for working closely with the Principal Investigator and lab members to develop and evaluate this algorithm. He/she should possess experience or interest in at least one of the following research areas:

• Signal Processing
• Distributed Systems and Networks
• Embedded Systems

The Research Assistant will be responsible for:

• Developing signal processing algorithms at the PHY layer
• Developing a consensus protocol with formal proofs of correctness
• Conducting large-scale comprehensive experiments on real hardware (Software Defined Radios)

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree with Honours/Master's degree in a relevant area
• Experience in research
• Proficient in C/C++ programming
• Knowledge of SDR/GNURadio programming
• Reliable, independent and scientific work style
