Project Title: Understanding the Formation-development-dissipation Processes of Flood-causing Storms over the Southeast Asia through an Integrative Analysis of Satellite and Surface Observations (PI: Asst Prof. Jingyu Wang)

Project Introduction: As the world's largest archipelago surrounded by one of the warmest oceans of the globe, Southeast Asia (SEA) has an extremely unstable atmosphere. The SEA convective systems can produce frequent, intense precipitation that may cause life-threatening flooding hazards with tremendous economic losses. Hence the flood-causing storms over SEA deserves further attention. This research proposes to establish a historical SEA storm detection and tracking system based on satellite observations.

Requirements

Essential

• Possess a Bachelor's degree in physics, civil engineering, or computer science/engineering with an emphasis in Geography or related disciplines
• Strong academic writing skills in English
• Experience in python coding and high performance computing system
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to conduct interviews in Singapore
• Good interpersonal and oral communication skills

Preferred

• Positive attitude towards learning and doing research
• Ability to manage project admin work
• Ability to work independently and manage fieldwork

Responsibilities

The job scope of this Research Assistant will include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Prepare research reports including literature reviews
• Assist with data collection, processing, visualization, spatial analysis, and other research-related activities
• Liaise with research participants and other stakeholders, arrange meetings, prepare schedules, etc.
• Help in organizing events, talks, seminars etc.
• Other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI)
