The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 24-month contract at the
Natural Sciences & Science Education Academic Group.

Project Title: Construction and Validation of Scientific Practices Survey Instrument for School [OER 20/22 OYS]

Project Introduction: This project aims to construct and validate a set of survey instruments for evaluating secondary students\xe2\x80\x99 scientific practices or the ways of thinking and doing science in four schools. Interviews with selected students will be conducted to find out more about their survey responses as part of the validation.

Requirements
Essential

• Possess a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Science, Science Education, or a related field
• Obtained a pass in any A-level science subject (H1/H2 Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) or equivalent
• Possess excellent communication skills with a good command of the English language to perform literature reviews, write progress reports and create visual infographics for presentations.
• Ability to take initiative and work flexibly, as part of a team, as well as independently with minimum supervision
• Able to travel to schools spread across Singapore
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Able to work within tight deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred

• Experience and/or interest in social science or education research
• Experience in qualitative analysis (e.g., discourse analysis) and/or qualitative analysis (e.g., Rasch analysis)
• Experience with NVivo, Winsteps, or other similar data analysis software

Responsibilities
You will work independently or collaboratively with other members of the research project team to:

• Conduct literature review
• Assist with data collection
• Organise and manage data
• Perform research-related administrative work, e.g. purchase of material/equipment for research
• Transcribe audio and video recordings
• Conduct data analysis using softwares such as Nvivo and Winsteps
• Assist in organising project-related workshops and activities

Carry out other research related tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator
