The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Clinical Research Assistant position, in the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Program, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, with an affiliation with the National University Health System (NUHS) Centre for Healthy Longevity.

The Centre for Healthy Longevity (CHL), one of Six Centres of Excellence of the National University Health System (NUHS), aims to be a leading institute for geroscience research and translation globally, renowned for translating research into practice to improve healthspan.

The CHL is seeking a Research Assistant (Laboratory Management) to assist the PI in management and coordination of the establishment of a new laboratory facility and streamlining lab processes for clinical research. The tasks include but are not limited to: * Setup and organisation of new lab facilities

  • Sourcing of essential lab equipment according to specifications
  • Development of lab operational activities, standard operating procedures
  • Management of lab equipment inventory
  • Support cell culture experiments
  • Support basic wet lab experiments when requested (e.g. western blots, ELISAs)
The position requires at least 3 years of working experience in a research or scientific lab, preferably with experience in setting up lab facilities and/or management of lab equipment. The applicant will work closely with the laboratory and clinical research team of the CHL. Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the PI in the set up and organisation of new lab facilities, including the arrangement of equipment and supplies.
  • Assist the PI to source laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring technical capability, value for money and timely delivery.
  • Develop, improve and streamline lab processes to ensure smooth daily operations and increase efficiency.
  • Assist the PI with lab safety and quality assurance duties, complying with NUS Office of Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) policies.
  • Manage the inventory of lab equipment and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Support the occasional set up of cell culture experiments
  • Support the occasional basic wet lab experiments (e.g. running western blots, ELISAs)
  • Comply with good lab practice as set out by the Laboratory Accreditation Programme of the College of American Pathologists and Singapore regulatory agencies such as the Medical Audit & Accreditation Unit.
Qualifications
  • BS/MS in Science or relevant discipline with at least 3 year of relevant work experience in a research or scientific environment; or
  • Experience in procurement and/or setup of lab facilities.
  • Able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Good interpersonal skills with strong leadership attributes.
  • Must be meticulous and have good organisation skills.
