Accept ClosePress Tab to Move to Skip to Content LinkSearch JobsJob Title: Research Assistant (OR/EID/OYS)Posting Start Date: 04/11/2024:The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments, and control strategies will be developed.We are currently seeking a Research Assistant to join the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Virology, under the guidance of Principal Investigator (xe2x80x9cPIxe2x80x9d) Assistant Professor Ooi Yaw Shin. The laboratory has a strong focus on discovering cellular factors, including host dependency and restriction factors, that determine susceptibility and permissiveness to virus infections. Leveraging functional genomics tools such as genome-scale CRISPR editing, the research aims to uncover host factors critical for virus infection and pathogenesis, providing valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms of viral infections and diseases. The current research is centred on pathogens with pandemic potential, such as flaviviruses and paramyxoviruses.The successful candidate will perform a variety of functions related to research under the supervision of the PI or his designate:

  • Work with the PI to design, develop, and execute research projects.
  • Conduct independently research projects, including data collection, analysis and preparation of results for publications and grant reports/applications.
  • Maintain accurate records of methodologies, materials, raw data and observations for experiments.
  • Provide assistance to other members in the laboratory.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related disciplines with a strong scientific and research background.
  • Prior experience in primary cell/organoid culture, in vivo models and bioinformatics would be advantageous.
  • A strong team player who is highly motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse workforce.
  • Possess excellent organisational and interpersonal communication skills, with strong written and presentation abilities.
