Job Title: Research Assistant (Wearable Protocols) - Senior Housing Typologies Project, Centre for ENgAGE

About ENgAGE: The Centre for Environment and Ageing Well (ENgAGE) is committed to advancing knowledge and practices to enhance environments that foster the physical, psychological, and social well-being of individuals across all age groups. The centre aims to coordinate and consolidate aging-related research, education, and resources within the NUS community, orchestrate capacity-building initiatives, and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders with a shared interest in meaningful enhancements to living environments for all.
Project Background: The "Comparative Study of Housing Typologies for Seniors" (CS-HTS) project investigates ways to adapt existing and future housing to support aging in place and enhance the quality of life (QoL) for older adults in urban context. Using a community science approach, the study aims to collaboratively develop, evaluate, and recommend integrated senior housing models for Singapore. The project incorporates both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies and brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts in architecture, urban design and planning, social sciences, public health, medicine, transportation, technology, and urban economics.
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Assistant to lead the Wearable Protocols (and where applicable, visualization using GIS) within the CS-HTS project. The successful candidate will work closely with Co-Investigators, interdisciplinary research teams, and project collaborators to support the integration of wearable sensor data into broader built environment and ageing-in-place analyses.
Responsibilities:

• Lead the deployment and data collection using wearable devices (e.g., step count, GPS, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, etc.) to infer residents' activity behaviour. Data collection will take place across multiple locations in Singapore.
• Train and coordinate a team of research students to assist with device deployment, data collection, and participant engagement.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of data management, including collection, monitoring, processing, and documentation.
• Develop and document wearable protocols and contribute to research reports.
• (Optional) Conduct statistical analysis and modelling of the data collected, and/or visualise findings using spatial mapping tools (e.g., GIS), depending on project needs and the candidate's expertise.

Qualifications
Essential qualifications:

• A Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Data Science, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field .
• At least 2 years' experience with relevant research experience, preferably involving wearable device data collection and processing protocols.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to write clear, comprehensive research reports.
• Experience working within interdisciplinary research teams.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently, and comfortable in a dynamic research environment.

Preferred skills:

• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with supporting softwares such as Strava, Matlab, RStudio, or GIS Platform
• Strong quantitative data analysis skill, including experience with statistical modelling.
