Job Description
:
- Experience in undertaking primary research and archival research on the environmental history of Malaysia and Singapore.
- Scope records for the period 1900-1960 which touch on agriculture and economics (exports/imports/values); records of social impact (disease, dearth, malnutrition) of extreme precipitation events, and look at issues of social vulnerability and resilience. In Kuala Lumpur, this would also involve accessing District Officer records for the Federated and Un-Federated Malay States, as well as Straits Settlements records alongside extant records from plantations (corporate and private).
- Direct a database of all potential sources and locate the archives (as well as undertaking a wider global search for possible archives where records are held overseas that would be undertaken if a future external grant were awarded), as well as following up on the locally available sources as a preliminary investigation.
- PhD in History or a related field.
- Prior experience in working on a grant related to environmental or climatic history.
- Reliable and diligent at working alone and paying attention to detail.
