A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR ID Labs) is seeking for a Research Fellow to join us in our mission to be a leading centre of infectious diseases research. A*STAR ID Labs aims to develop a cohesive A*STAR response to drive and deliver translational infectious diseases research to better health and economic outcomes.

This position is within the Bacterial Pathogenesis Lab lead by Dr Stefan Oehlers. Please see alumni listed on lab website (oehlerslab.org) for the calibre of expected performance and representative publications utilising our core research methodologies to investigate mycobacterial infection biology in vivo. Our laboratory primarily uses host genetic manipulation and live imaging technologies to identify subversion of protective immunity at the host-pathogen interface, and then design rational treatments to increase immunity to infections.

  • To understand strategies and mechanisms for host and pathogen interactions in mycobacterial infections to guide the development of targeted and effective control and treatment strategies
  • Work with existing infection models and develop new in vivo infection models
  • Plan, schedule, co-ordinate, and lead multiple research projects
  • Analyse, interpret, and present scientific results
  • Develop new research techniques and approaches
  • Work independently and with collaborators to develop new research ideas
Job Requirements
Qualification & Field of Study: PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Infectious Diseases, Immunology or related field as above
Min. Years of Experience: Fresh PhD graduates are welcome to apply
Other Requirements (e.g. Skills, Competencies):
  • Training and demonstrated ability to perform molecular biology techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to complete research projects
  • Demonstrated ability to pursue multiple lines of investigation concurrently
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Willingness to challenge established paradigms
  • Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and ability to make those around them better
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
Helpful but not required experience:
  • infection/immunity, genetic model systems, microscopy, handling BSL-2 pathogens, histology, animal husbandry, micromanipulation
  • Supervision of students/interns, competitive grants/scholarships
  • Laboratory and animal husbandry administration
