See .You will be working with Associate Professor Michiel van Breugel (primary advisor, work package leader; see https://www.newforestsandtrees.org/) and Assistant Professor Hao Tang (project PI; see https://profile.nus.edu.sg/fass/hao.tang/).Invitation to ApplyThe Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore invites applications for the position as a Research Fellow on a blue carbon project funded by Marine Climate Change Science (MCCS) Programme. Prior field experience in blue carbon ecosystems in coastal wetlands (i.e., mangroves, seagrass, and saltmarsh) is required. The position is expected to begin in July 2024 or soon thereafter. The position will be for a period of up to 2 years subject to performance review.Terms of Appointment * The appointment will be tenable for a maximum period of 2 years

  • Develop experimental protocols and oversee and lead data collection for the quantification and modelling of blue carbon stocks and fluxes
  • Review data for quality control and supervise data entry/analyses
  • Publish peer-reviewed scientific papers and present your work at international conferences and workshops
  • Support project administration and management
  • Organize training for undergraduate and graduate research assistants in the field and/or laboratory
Skills and Experience
  • A PhD in ecology, environmental sciences, geography, biogeochemistry or similar discipline
  • Extensive experience (
4 yrs) with field work and associated lab work on blue carbon ecosystems (i.e., mangrove, seagrass, saltmarsh, macroalgae), with a focus on measurements of carbon stocks and gas fluxes * Experience with blue carbon assessment and/or trading projects
  • Familiar with different protocols for measuring, monitoring, and reporting aboveground and soil carbon mapping.
  • Publication record commensurate with career stage
  • Highly organized and proactive, and with the ability to work independently.
Desirable Skills
  • Prior use of LI-COR or similar to measure photosynthesis and soil respiration/gas flux
  • Experience with managing and processing data using R, Python or similar.
