Research Fellow (cellular Biochemistry Of Co2 Fixation)

Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

A Research Fellow position is available in the Mueller-Cajar lab, School of School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The Mueller-Cajar lab at the School of Biological Sciences seeks to understand the molecular machinery involved in photosynthetic carbon dioxide fixation. The programme aims to study the biochemistry and cell biology of “superior” red-type Rubiscos from marine phytoplankton. We hope to understand the folding and assembly requirements of this enzymes, which will permit their use in plants and potentially enhance the efficiency of photosynthesis. This is an opportunity to study the biochemistry and cell biology of “superior” red-type Rubiscos from marine phytoplankton. These enzymes are able to operate in our current atmosphere more efficiently than those found in our crop species, but we are not able to harness their potential due to their inability to fold and assemble in plant chloroplasts. The goal of the programme is to unlock their potential for biotechnology. This will first necessitate us to enhance our knowledge of the biogenesis of these Rubiscos. Our toolkit includes cell biology, mechanistic biochemistry, structural biology and algal genetics (and of course any pre-existing skills the successful candidate can apply). : The research fellow will take ownership of agreed upon scientific problems and fully dedicate his or her efforts towards these goals. They will devise and carry out appropriate experiments, analyse and interpret data and ultimately communicate the findings by publication in journals and attendance at scientific conferences. From time to time the group hosts undergraduate researchers, who will be supervised by the research fellow. Job Requirements: The candidate needs to have a PhD in a related discipline such as biochemistry, cell biology and/or molecular biology. Candidates trained in structural methods, such as cryo-electron microscopy. Other (optional) skills of interest include experience with algal biology and photosynthesis. The School of Biological Sciences seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified. Hiring Institution: NTU In line with Singapore’s nationwide Vaccination-Differentiated Safe Management Measures (VDS), employees must be fully vaccinated to return to the workplace, unless certified to be medically ineligible.
