Job Description

The School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

Cloud computing has become the default architecture of choice in many domains, primarily driven by the proliferation of compute-intensive Artificial Intelligence technologies. Orthogonally, with the increasing popularity of Internet-of-Things, decentralization of cloud computing in the form of edge and mobile computing is also happening. Although applications with time-critical functions have not yet been deployed on such architectures, this is rapidly changing with the advent of next-generation wireless technology like LoRa and 5G. In this project, we address the problem of resource (computation and communication) allocations in such architectures, considering a mixed deployment of time-critical as well as non time-critical applications, with the objective to minimize the energy consumption of low power end devices. We aim to solve the problem holistically taking into account all the relevant resources, and focus on decentralized online solutions with analytical performance guarantees.

Key Responsibilities:

For this purpose, we are looking for a research fellow candidate with the following job scope:

Conduct research on end-to-end delay analysis for multi-resource allocation and scheduling problems in the wireless/edge/cloud domain.

Develop resource allocation and scheduling algorithms for the wireless/edge/cloud domain with performance guarantees on resource utilization as well as on meeting end-to-end deadlines.

Supervise and coordinate with PhD students and other members of the research team.

Provide support in other project management activities.



Job Requirements:

A PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fields .

Proficient in research on resource allocation problems in computing or operations research.

Prior research experience and academic publications in the wireless/edge/cloud domain.
