Offer Description
The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore is a multi-disciplinary institute committed to develop new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration and function.
Asst. Prof. Chan is seeking a highly motivated individual to join my laboratory on Mammalian Development and Tissue Hydraulics at the Mechanobiology Institute in the National University of Singapore. My laboratory seeks to understand the mechanobiology principles underlying ovarian follicle development, using ex vivo mouse ovary and follicle culture.
The candidate will have a chance to apply and develop interdisciplinary approaches to investigate how tissue stress and fluid pressure control follicle growth. The candidate will combine quantitative imaging with biomimetic approaches established in the lab to characterize the cellular dynamics and fluid lumen formation during follicle development. He/she will also apply biophysical and molecular perturbations to dissect the molecular mechanisms regulating these processes, and collaborate with theoreticians to develop biophysical models. He/she will be expected to participate in ongoing collaborations with researchers in Japan and Europe.
Qualifications
Candidates with a PhD in biophysics, engineering, cell and developmental biology are encouraged to apply. They should have a strong background in confocal and 2-photon imaging, image analysis, and some research experiences in tissue biology and/or mechanobiology. Prior knowledge of the mouse model is not a prerequisite. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills and engage in collaborative research in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
Salary and benefits are commensurable to educational qualifications and working experience of the candidates. Applicants should email a description of research interests, a CV and the names of two to three references to Asst. Prof. Chan at .
