Research Division

The Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences, is at the forefront of building capabilities and continuing professional development for an effective, innovative and responsive training and adult education (TAE) sector.

The IAL Research Division aims to provide a strong knowledge base for the development of practice in continuing education and training (CET). It seeks to ensure that the development of policy is informed by research and up-to-date knowledge of international and local best practices. The division also enables research in Singapore by facilitating projects and building research capability amongst practitioners. It also serves as a conduit for funding and commissioning research in the CET sector. Through practitioner engagement and partnerships, it works to build a vibrant research culture.



The responsibilities of the Researcher include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Undertake literature reviews, including search, analysis and writing functions.
  • Contribute to the design of research instruments.
  • Perform data collection, cleaning, preparation, and analysis.
  • Compile, organise, and present data findings in clear and concise formats.
  • Contribute to various output dissemination, report writing and publications.
  • Support research project management/operational activities, such as planning, scheduling, and other day-to-day project-related logistics.
  • Any other duties, including cross-divisional projects or events, that may be assigned by the management from time to time to meet the needs of the organisation and changing environment.
Job Requirements
  • A degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, or any other fields of study with substantial quantitative training.
  • One to two years of related experience in quantitative research and analysis.
  • Interest in development as a researcher in the areas of job skills, workforce development, and lifelong learning.
  • Knowledge in statistical analysis techniques and ability to perform statistical analyses using tools such as STATA or R, etc.
  • Sound analytical skills, with ability to think in the abstract and conceptualise findings from the literature and empirical data.
  • Ability to write and document research findings clearly in research presentations and reports.
  • Good organisational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • The successful appointee will be based at the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) located within the Lifelong Learning Institute at Paya Lebar.
