Job Description

The A*STAR Centre for Frontier AI Research (CFAR) was formed in 2021 to advance use-inspired basic research in AI within the broader A*STAR scientific community. CFAR aspires to be a world-class AI centre pushing the boundaries of AI research to deliver scientific and economic impact at the national and global scales.

We are seeking research scientists to drive cutting-edge fundamental research in the broad area of Resilient and Safe AI. Specific areas of interest include:

Adversarial attacks and defenses

Robustness to, and recovery from, data distribution shifts

Uncertainty quantification

Successful candidates will be expected to independently propose and execute research in the abovementioned areas and publish their work at top-tier AI conferences and journals. They will be immersed in a vibrant and collaborative environment at CFAR and will have the opportunity to collaborate with other AI groups not just within CFAR but across the A*STAR family.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

PhD in a technical field with relevance to Resilient and Safe AI.

Ability to conduct world-class research in AI as demonstrated through publications in top AI conferences and journals. For candidates with a related technical background looking to transition into AI, demonstrated research ability and expertise in a relevant area is expected.

Good interpersonal skills; able to work well with others and in teams.

Good communication skills.

Expertise in core machine learning areas such as optimization and statistics is a plus.
