What the role is:

Do you have a desire to be part of a crime-solving team? If so, we want you to be part of our team at the Home Team Science & Technology Agency (HTX). As one of the 14 Centres of Expertise (CoE), the Forensics CoE develops the capability and capacity through research, development, and continuous innovation in order to provide scientific and technological forensic analyses and advice to deliver quality, accurate, and prompt intelligence so that crimes can be solved better and faster. As a Senior Crime Scene Specialist, you will be deployed to the Forensics Division (FD) of Singapore Police Force\'s Criminal Investigation Department to support investigation work. You will lead a team of specialists in conducting crime scene investigations to process and recover critical evidence related to criminal cases or traffic incidents.

What you will be working on:

You will be placed on the HTX (Technical) Scheme, where you will receive on-the-job training on how to analyse and document crime scenes. You are expected to competently handle specialised equipment and perform appropriate enhancement techniques for the detection and preservation of forensic evidence found at crime scenes. As a leader, you will provide guidance to a team of Crime Scene Specialists in conducting analysis and documentation at the scenes of crime/traffic accident, as well as thorough examination and recovery of physical evidence. You will be in charge of the planning and deployment of resources, and will be responsible for ensuring that all actions taken by your team in the course of work comply with proper procedures that fulfil both legal and scientific requirements. You are also required to perform shift duties, and be on stand-by 24/7. Due to the nature of crime scene work, you must be prepared to encounter unpleasant sights and smell, as there are circumstances in which you are expected to perform duties related to victim identification. Apart from leading developmental projects, you need to be pro-active in monitoring the emergence of new technologies/equipment/procedures related to forensics and assess its use in the local context with the objective of enhancing the operational readiness of the Division.

What we are looking for:

Candidates should possess/be: \xe2\x80\xa2 Tertiary education in any Physical Sciences (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.), Mathematics, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or other relevant fields from a recognised University. \xe2\x80\xa2 Suitable candidates with work experience in related fields, such as homeland security, law enforcement, and/or military, may be considered. \xe2\x80\xa2 Experience in photography, videography, digital animation, and/or related multi-media fields are favoured. \xe2\x80\xa2 Research experience will be an advantage. \xe2\x80\xa2 Candidates with no prior experience in forensics are welcome to apply. Specialist knowledge and/or prior experience in crime scene forensics, however, will be an added advantage. \xe2\x80\xa2 Excellent written and verbal communication skills. \xe2\x80\xa2 Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. \xe2\x80\xa2 Good time and people management skills. \xe2\x80\xa2 Meticulous and observant, with ability to work independently. \xe2\x80\xa2 Good team player. \xe2\x80\xa2 Ability to remain calm and compose in stressful situations. \xe2\x80\xa2 Medically fit to handle the physically demanding crime scene environment. \xe2\x80\xa2 A valid driving license will be an advantage. Training will be provided for successful applicants without a valid driving license. All new appointees will be appointed on a two-year contract in the first instance.
