The Senior Infrastructure Engineer:

The Senior Engineer is a professional engineer performing duties requiring the application of mature professional engineering knowledge. With scope for individual accomplishment and coordination of more difficult assignments, the professional deals with problems for which it is necessary to modify established guides and devise new approaches.

The Senior Engineer may make some original contribution or apply new professional engineering approaches and techniques to the design or development of equipment or special aspects of products, facilities and buildings.

Recommendations may be reviewed for soundness of judgement but are usually regarded as technically accurate and feasible. The Senior Engineer makes responsible decisions on matters assigned, including the establishment of professional engineering standards and procedures, consults, recommends and advises in specialty engineering areas.

Work is carried out within broad guidelines requiring conformity with overall objectives, relative priorities and necessary cooperation with other units. Informed professional engineering guidance may be available.

The Senior Engineer outlines and assigns work, reviews it for technical accuracy and adequacy, and may plan, direct, coordinate and supervise the work of other professional and technical staff.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you are accountable for:

  • Preparing definition documents, solution specifications, design documentation, acceptance test procedures and other associated documentation to align with project objectives, and participating in the product integration and verification phases
  • Supporting the planning and coordination of program hardware integration activities, and delivering hardware integration services for systems and/or sub-systems of products
  • Integration of the solution elements in a logical and controlled manner to evaluate the design, behavior, interactions and performance to confirm that the requirements against which the solution has been designed are fulfilled
  • Product installation, configuration, validation and handover of equipment to systems integration teams locally or on customer sites
  • Defining and leading infrastructure testing activities in order to demonstrate the solution satisfies the user requirements
  • Participating in Design Reviews with customers
  • Identifying risks and proposing effective solutions
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated the following knowledge and experience:
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, IT or other relevant qualification
  • Solid experience with the Red Hat Linux Operating Systems, including Kernel configuration, driver packages, performance tuning and automation
  • Experience of scripting languages (TCL.TK, Perl and Shell)
  • Familiarity with a wide range of computer and networking hardware (preferably HP and Cisco)
  • Solid understanding of hardware integration and testing processes
  • Practical experience of validation and integration of hardware components on large, complex, software-based systems
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to write clear and concise documents that clearly articulate complex technical detail
