What the role is
The Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS) is a national R&D centre jointly established by the Singapore Polytechnic and the Singapore Maritime Institute. It collaborates with the maritime industry and research community to develop innovative digital solutions and training systems to enhance maritime safety, through state-of-the-art research facilities at CEMS, such as South-east Asia's first navigation research simulator. The appointee will be part of the CEMS AI & Software team to adopt AI and digitization technologies to maritime domain. The appointee will work closely with the AI team, Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), and maritime industry to develop and drive technology adoptions to enhance maritime safety for the industry.
What you will be working on
Responsibilities: Internal Engagements - Perform industry landscape scan on current and emerging trends in maritime sector, in particular the maritime safety areas - Analyse and translate industry problem statements into technical problems for the AI team - Work closely with SMA in special projects to enhance maritime training in safety domain - Preparing reports and papers for publication, presentation, periodical reporting/meetings, etc External Engagements - Liaise with project stakeholders, including funding agencies and industrial partners. - Initiate projects with industry and profile R&D outcomes to the industry - Facilitate, establish and grow strong partnerships with industry and research community in the maritime ecosystem by driving collaboration and adoption of digital technologies by CEMS
What we are looking for
Requirements: - Relevant qualifications in engineering, computer science or maritime studies - At least 3 years of experience in R&D projects, preferably related to maritime sector - Strong conceptual and analytical thinking skills, capable of formulating and executing outreach strategies to secure mutually beneficial collaborations - Result and people-oriented individual with strong presentation and communication skills - Candidates who possess knowledge in digital technologies (e.g. Augmented Reality /Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence) and programming skills will have an advantage Successful applicant will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
