Job Description

This is a newly created position which reports directly to the Head of Legal and Insurance, where you will provide all legal support in areas of corporate, compliance, contracts and insurance functions. As the Senior Associate, together with the team you will provide leadership and governance through developing and implementing governance structures on legal and commercial aspects.

With plans to expand the Legal & Insurance department, our client is looking for a shipping & maritime lawyer to join their team as a Senior Associate. This is a newly created position which reports directly to the Head of Legal and Insurance.

Description

• Draft and review legal agreements including sales and purchase, restructuring, joint venture, investments, subscriptions and loans, M&A, financial facility agreements
• Review and handle S&P matters on acquisition of shares, ships and related agreements
• Manage and liaise with external lawyers on all legal matters
• Handle charterparty disputes, cargo claims with customers and owners
• Provide legal advice to hubs on all issues and claims

Profile

• Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognised university and admitted to the Singapore Bar
• Minimum 2 years of PQE for Senior Associate position and minimum 6 years of PQE for Assistant Legal Manager position
• Experience in maritime/shipping law and familiar with carriage of goods by sea, dispute resolution, commercial litigation and marine insurance
• Prior experience in insurance matters is an advantage
• Strong communication skills and able to work as a team player and independently
