We are looking for a policy professional with demonstrated expertise in navigating regional energy regulations, market rules, and related policies to drive AWS\'s Energy Policy and Regulatory Affairs work in APAC. The successful candidate will have deep familiarity and experience with public policies concerning the energy industry, market institutions, grid systems, and related regulatory bodies, particularly for electric power generation, transmission and distribution.

This role can be located in Northeast Asia (e.g. Japan, Korea, Taiwan), Southeast Asia (e.g. Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand), Australia/New Zealand, or South Asia (India), but no matter where they are located, they should be someone with deep, region-wide hands-on technical experience with utility industry stakeholders, market rules, and regulatory environments.

Ability to travel as needed, primarily within APAC.

Key job responsibilities
- Develop and execute advocacy strategies that support AWS\'s energy needs and infrastructure development.
- Manage related policy priorities and lead engagements with various regional, national, and sub-national electric power / grid-related policymaking and/or regulatory bodies, as well as utilities, grid operators, and related industry groups / trade associations.
- Deepen relationships with external stakeholders and experts to identify opportunities and risks arising from policy and regulatory developments that would impact AWS\'s long-term growth.
- Work closely with internal business partners to draft and contribute to policy/regulatory submissions, and engage in consultations with relevant policy/regulatory stakeholders.
- Contribute to energy policy advocacy / thought leadership efforts within AWS, including coordinating and developing public policy collateral, such as policy position papers and talking points.
- Provide expert advice to internal business partners and assist them in developing their respective business strategies.

A day in the life
In this role, you will lead the development of AWS\'s regional energy policy/regulatory positioning and advocacy strategies, as well as coordination across varied groups of stakeholders (both internal and external) to execute on these and deliver meaningful outcomes, including in regional grid management and capacity planning processes, as well as the development of market rules and incentives to support the integration of new grid enhancing/decarbonizing technologies.

We pursue this mission by owning the relationship with policymakers and regulators\' policy and strategy teams, and building alliances of industry and third-party stakeholders.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- A minimum of 10 years of relevant public policy experience on issues pertaining to electric power systems and grid infrastructure. Experience working with energy markets and regulations is essential.
- Knowledge of and experience with the electric power industry across the APAC regions in which AWS operates, and demonstrated expertise in transmission systems, electricity markets, and energy regulation, paired with a passion for innovative thinking about sustainability, energy, and infrastructure policy development.
- Strong understanding of and experience with organizations involved in energy policymaking across the APAC region.
- Deep, region-wide hands-on technical experience with utility industry stakeholders, market rules, and regulatory environments.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated expertise in writing and explaining complex policy topics to a wide variety of non-policy audiences, including experience and comfort with public speaking.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience managing teams of international policy experts working across different jurisdictions.
- Proven record of successful collaboration with industry groups, think tanks, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Excitement for new energy technologies and emerging carbon-free solutions for the power sector.
- Background in building and working within complex coalitions of actors, and coordinating across varied stakeholder groups.
- A self-starter that has created, led, and driven innovative projects from concept to conclusion.
- Proven team player that has worked in roles that require coordination across various teams to achieve success.
- In addition to English, other APAC-relevant language skills are a strong plus.
