THE POSITION

Responsible for developing and executing high impact policy positions and Government Affairs programs, aimed at ensuring a favorable business environment for BI\xe2\x80\x99s Business in ROPU ASKAN. Steer PGA activities and guide OPU PGA managers in the region.

Understands and influences the external political environment and potential governmental developments.

Supports the business in developing and establishing a strong corporate affairs presence and strategy to help ensure an environment where patients have access to BI\xe2\x80\x99s medicines, now and in the future.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and analyze political and legislative developments, including government health policies, and assess the possible impact on BI\xe2\x80\x99s business and reputation, providing insight and counsel in key business planning decisions.
  • Direct, devise and execute strategic plans to leverage or mitigate upcoming changes and trends. Promote business goals through thought leadership and structured advocacy.
  • Enhance visibility and give BI a prominent voice with policy makers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key policy stakeholders to advance BI business goals and further develop BI\xe2\x80\x99s reputation as a credible and respected voice in the life sciences sector.
  • Lead advocacy outreach to relevant politicians and parliamentary groups, being the initial face of the organization with these individuals.
  • Lead the response to relevant Government consultations on behalf of the business to help articulate and implement policy positions.
  • Lead, manage and co-ordinate BI\'s engagement with relevant trade associations. Actively participate in relevant groups
  • Instigate, develop, and drive approval of all relevant letters, documents, positioning papers, slides etc. (approval process) (with agency support where appropriate)
  • Representing ROPU ASKAN within BI\xe2\x80\x99s global Government Relations network. Work closely with the PGA managers in the region, the Head of Corporate Affairs and the wider team to ensure an integrated and joined-up approach.
Organizational Requirements:

This role interacts with the RA, Compliance, Legal, Communications and Global PGA team.

Job Complexity:

This role operates in a highly matrixed organization and acts as a resource for the PGA function within ROPU Corporate Affairs

Interfaces:

Job interacts directly with BUs, GFs, Global PGA team and external governmental stakeholders

REQUIREMENTS

Job Expertise:

- In depth understanding of healthcare policy and/or Animal Health policy
- An understanding of the issues facing the pharmaceutical industry and a grasp of its regulatory environment
- Track record of implementing advocacy strategies to shape a policy environment in pursuit of organizational goals
- At ease building strong business relationships with a network of senior politicians and policy makers
- Established relationships with relevant parliamentarians an advantage
- Confident in explaining complex policy issues to internal audience to strengthen understanding and engagement across the organization
- Maintain strict compliance with all applicable policies and laws, especially those related to interactions with government officials

The actions of this function are highly visible to the direct stakeholders, and they are directly impacting the perception of the respective stakeholders in their key audiences.

Education/Degree Requirements:

Bachelor\'s Degree in related field

Required Capabilities/Skills/Experience/Competencies:
  • An expert with at least 7 \xe2\x80\x93 10 years of relevant experience who has extensive experience of working in politics/Government Relations at national level
  • Team player and strong collaborator
  • Confident public speaker able to engage a room of individuals with different perspectives and position a potentially controversial argument
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to articulate messages clearly and concisely in an engaging style perspective.
  • Ability to prioritize work under pressure and deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • Thoroughness, accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Highly motivated, able to work independently and in a team
