Job Purpose and Impact

The China and Southeast Asia Merchant will handle sales of Cotton to direct customers (mills) following the game plan defined by the Merchandising Manager of the region.
It requires Autonomy/Risk Management, Analysis/Reporting/Data Management, Strategy Development/Execution Capacity. You will develop and manage relationships with customers (spinning mills integrated or not, government entities) under several approaches, all converging to providing adapted solutions, in order to reach target volumes and generate profit as defined by the product line management.

Key Accountabilities

• Works with customers in China and Southeast Asia on a daily basis to sell cotton as defined with the Merchandising Manager of the region and the Leadership team.
• Works directly with destination counterparties in developing business solutions to meet their needs, requiring a fundamental understanding of Merchandising practices and procedures.
• Monitors positions by researching supply and demand forecasts and market movements.
• Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
• Collaborate with transportation and logistics, quality assurance, customer managers and credit manager to ensure efficient execution.
• Applies Merchandising practices and procedures to execute and monitor the short term strategy for cotton in the regions.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor\'s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of four years of related work experience
• Other minimum qualifications may apply

Preferred Qualifications

• 4 years minimum of merchandising experience
• Cotton specific experience
• Proven ability to understand margins, futures and basis relationships
• Knowledge of risk management principles
• Ability to understand month end P&L reconciliation
• Demonstrated experience effectively dealing with customers
• Basic knowledge of production agriculture and agronomy
• Business Development experience
• Demonstrated written/verbal communication and documentation skills
• Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing conditions in the business
• Proven analytical/critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills
• Motivation and ability to execute projects/tasks in a timely manner, strong prioritization and time management skills
• This position will be required to travel up to 30% of the time, including training and development activities and strategy meetings outside the region
