Advanced Materials Technology Centre (AMTC) is one of the applied Research & Development (R&D) centres under the Department for Technology, Innovation and Enterprise (TIE). Integrating advanced materials, industrial chemistry and nanotechnology R&D activities, AMTC plays an integral role in promoting multi-disciplinary & cross-functional projects between Singapore Polytechnic and its business and industry partners.
The appointee will be part of the research team to engage industries, plan and deliver Additive Manufacturing (AM) projects, create intellectual property (IP) and assist schools to build up their capabilities to meet the needs of AM industry.
Responsibilities:
Integrate engineering design, design modifications and digital build file creation that are based on numerical simulation feedback and feedback from engineering and manufacturing
Work closely with additive manufacturing team to ensure builds are coordinated with design iterations throughout the development cycle
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop both 2D and 3D models from physical models using CAD and simulation software package.
Apply Design for AM (DfAM) principles to meet industry consultation and R&D proposal needs.
Provide engineering expertise while focusing on design quality, reliability, cost effectiveness and ease of manufacturing
Identify and engage industry collaborators to establish collaboration and scope out new innovative projects. Analyse, develop and implement strategic plans to translate the developed technologies to market for commercialisation
Collaborate with colleagues from schools and departments to create engaging learning activities and course content for PET and CET students to meet the needs of AM industry
Identify opportunities for improvement in additive operations, guide material and technology/machine selection, and review engineering requirements for AM applications
Support procurement efforts in the overall project milestones
Requirements:
Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science & Engineering, Computer Science or closely related field with focus on additive manufacturing
Experience in Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), metal and polymer additive manufacturing technologies, and operating additive machines
Experience in robotic systems, including design consideration, parameter development and process control will be an advantage
Experience in additive simulation software, topological optimization software, mechanical design and CAD/CAM software, 3D scanning and digital modelling with the understanding in application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and machine development
Cross-functional engineering expertise with ability in operating additive equipment (such as a laser-CNC multi-axis machine system)
Experience in reading and programming G-code for geometry tool-path development or robotic automation control
Experience in reviewing engineering drawings and specifications, and providing guidance to manufacturing engineers
Successful applicant will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
