[What the role is]
The Centre for Climate Research Singapore (CCRS) is a division of the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS). At CCRS, our mission is to advance scientific understanding of tropical climate variability and change and its associated weather systems affecting Singapore and the wider Southeast Asia region, so that the knowledge and expertise can benefit decision makers and the community. Our vision is to be a world leading centre in tropical climate and weather research focussing on the Southeast Asia region.
CCRS is excited to offer job opportunity for a scientist with a background in climate science and/or climate impact science to join the Climate Change Impacts Branch (CCI) within our Department of Climate Research (DCR).
[What you will be working on]
The CCI Branch focuses its research on four key priority areas that have been developed in consultation with Singapore stakeholder agencies. These areas include some that complement existing capabilities in CCRS (e.g. sea level rise), as well as three other areas of climate change impact research highly relevant to Singapore: (a) water supply and flood management; (b) food security; and (c) impact of warming trends on human health and the energy sector. Together, these research efforts will support Singapore stakeholders\xe2\x80\x99 planning and decision-making processes on climate change adaptation. The climate impact research of CCRS\xe2\x80\x99 CCI Branch will contribute directly to the goals of the recently established Climate Science Research Program Office (CSRPO) by linking climate impact research directly to stakeholder needs. Collaborations with Singapore RI\xe2\x80\x99s and IHL\xe2\x80\x99s on relevant climate impact science projects funded by the CSRPO will further boost climate impact research in Singapore.
[What we are looking for]
The job might be for you if you possess the following:
A PhD (or equivalent research experience) in a relevant physical science such as meteorology, oceanography, mathematics or physics;
3 years post graduate research experience in a field relevant to climate science and/or one of the key research areas: (a) water supply and flood management, (b) biodiversity and food security and (c) impact of warming trends on human health and the energy sector;
Demonstrate ability to undertake research work both individually and as part of a team;
Some proficiency in scientific computing;
Proven record of success as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals;
Good written and verbal presentation skills;
Interest and passion for delivering climate impact science for societal benefits;
Ability to network effectively with the local and international research community; and
Ability to work to deadlines as part of a diverse team.
As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment.
